2. Obama won't win North Carolina

But he can give it up and still be way ahead of the game. They will make a play for it (that's why the convention is there) but they won't win it. North Carolina won't decide this election. Florida, Iowa, Nevada, Colorado, and Ohio will. And Obama's looking pretty good in all of them.

What they will do is force the Mittster to spend more time and money in North Carolina than he should. Every $ spent there is a $ not spent in all of the other states I mentioned. That's the real reason for the North Carolina play. Make Mitt work for it. He'll still get it, but it will detract from his campaign everywhere else.

Yes, the Democratic party is facing some particular challenges right now in NC (*ahem*) but none of this sounds like a recipe for disaster.
