L.I. Couple Found Dead in Apparent Murder Suicide

Police say four children returning home from school found their mother dead in the kitchen, and then paramedics found the father dead in what police are calling a murder suicide.

The killings occurred three weeks before the father was to be sentenced in a larceny case.

"There was definitely some problems" in the marriage, Detective Sgt. Greg Leismeister said at a news conference at Nassau County Police Headquarters.

He said police went to the North Bellmore home of Thomas and Sherrelle Hayes at about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday after the Hayes' 13-year-old daughter called 911.

Leismeister said the girl had arrived home at about 3 p.m. and was told by her father through a locked front door to pick up her three younger siblings at school. When all four arrived a half hour later, they found the front door still locked. One of the children entered through a back door and let the others inside.

I don't know what goes on in peoples lives that forces people to do things like this.

If you have children at school, and you decide to off someone and then yourself, at least have the decency to do it at a reasonable hour, and just before you do yourself in, dial 911.

Tell them your address, and then take your own life.

Better yet, take your own life first, after dialing 911.
