If you become a Democrat, you have to worry about climate change annihilating humanity on your watch. If you are a Republican, climate change isnt even a problem. Personally, I rest easier when I am not worried about a super-typhoon killing me during REM sleep.
Consider economics. If you are a Democrat, you have to balance all sorts of complicated economic theories in your head. That stuff is hard to understand and almost always wrong anyway. But if you are a Republican, all you need to know is that cutting taxes will make us all rich. Both approaches are ridiculous, but only one is easy. So take the easy, stress-free path. Then let the economy heal itself while the government is in gridlock, like always.
When it comes to bombing strangers in other countries, Democrats have to weigh all sorts of concerns about morality, national defense, relations with allies, economics, and likelihood of success. Republican have it easier here too. Regarding the Middle East, for example, all they have to do is ask themselves two questions:
1. What does Israel want us to do?
2. Do we have any bombs left?

(135,425 posts)And this nihilist riff kind of seals the deal:
Your irrational decision-making and your one vote wont help the country no matter which party you join. But dying from stress is clearly bad. So if you want to be happy and healthy, join the Republican Party.

So tell me, what's your opinion on Thomas Swift and his attitude towards poor children?
MADem
(135,425 posts)And perhaps you missed this key sentence when you read the material at the link?
And then, this piece?
I guess not, since he endorsed Romney in 2012~!!!! That's no "Thomas Swift" endorsement, either. He meant it.

(1 post)You made me laugh because your witticism requires your target to do research just to learn how you insulted his intelligence.
MADem
(135,425 posts)That tired old Swiftian trope is dragged out regularly, here and if you think my intelligence was insulted by someone who doesn't know the sexist, corporatist bent of the Seventy Five Million Dollar Sock Puppeting One Percenter being championed in this thread, I'd say there's more than one person in this neighborhood who needs to do a little research...

(469 posts)You two ought to get to know one another. I believe, MADem, that you're probably already acquainted with Satire's cousin, Sarcasm. Lord knows, we see his work here VERY often.
Lets boil that blog down to its bare minimum, shall, we? If you're LAZY & STUPID, you'll probably be more comfortable as a Republican. That's how I read it, anyway.
FWIW, Adams' use of the Joe McCarthy pejorative form of "Democrat Party" irritated me, too, but I read stuff on the internet a lot, and have learned to look past the grammar.

(135,425 posts)Anyone who proudly calls themselves a "selfishertarian" knows his own mind.
I think it's kind of funny that people want to "read" sarcasm/satire into shit this guy REALLY MEANS. Anyone who has followed him for any amount of time knows this.
If he feels pain, he cries about it. If YOU feel pain, and it doesn't coincide with his, well, tough noodles for you. That's his POV.
He's a libertarian--or a small government Republican who wants to smoke weed. He's more at home with REASON on the coffee table than The Nation, make no mistake.
And he also likes to play sockpuppet games when anyone discusses him on the internet...whassup with that?
