Rosie O’Donnell: ‘Not even lesbians’ would serve pizza at a wedding

In an SiriusXM Radio Town Hall appearance alongside activist Michelangelo Signorile, comedian Rosie O’Donnell sounded off about Indiana’s Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) on Friday, quipping that “not even lesbians” would be tacky enough to serve pizza at their same-sex wedding.

-snip-

According to Mediaite, O’Donnell was referring to the backlash against Indiana pizza restaurant Memories Pizza and its owner Crystal O’Connor, who proudly announced that her establishment would not be catering any same-sex weddings due to her family’s Christian faith.

-snip-

O’Donnell told Signorile on Friday that in her estimation, the whole flap is pretty pointless. “Gays were going to cater their wedding with pizza? Not even lesbians would do that,” she said.

“We might have a potluck, we have bring your own chili,” she said. “But that’s only if financial situations are tough.”

There was a big house party after the event at the villa of the family of the bride. Tons of people, a big old band, dancing, fun, laughter. The guy who ran the pizza joint down the road sent along one of his best pizza makers and they fired up the family pizza oven in the back garden. The guy made all sorts of pizza and little mini-tart-like thing-a-ma-bobs, all delicious. There was also a ton of other food as well and the party lasted for at least ten hours.

Nothing wrong with any type of food to celebrate, what's wrong is when haters make the food as part of their business and then play like they're going to withhold it for people who aren't, to their small minds, the "right" sort.

Pizza, cake, cupcakes, whatever--haters gonna hate, and they can take their crappy, made-with-hate food and stick it where the sun don't shine. Fuck 'em.

I just had this mental image of a fancy sit down dinner, all the different silverware, where everyone was dressed up and they serve pizza.

relations of the happy couple. And this was in farty Roman Catholic Italy, as well.

It was a rather fancy affair, in its own way--the garden setting was rustic, but the tablecloths were thick, beautiful linen and the china was top shelf! We were all dressed to the nines, and danced our feet off!

friend of a friend's reception was a cookout with hot dogs, and not just for the kids. They were straight, though.

From the right wing to Memories Pizza! If they invest it wisely, they won't have to make too many more pizzas.

So will this money be taxed? What percentage?

If someone gives you money it is not taxed. Unless it is higher than $14,000 and then there is a gift tax. But that is paid by the giver not the receiver. And there is a huge lifetime exclusion so most people never have to pay that.

I mean, who serves pizza at a wedding? IMO certainly not a gay/lesbian one. I'd only imagine straight people without much class. Even then, big deal, as there is better food out there to serve at weddings.

Republicans being scammed out of $500,000 thinking that they are supporting a (in their mind) legitimate cause. What fools. The owners can retire now...

The reporter said she randomly went into the pizza place. She had been looking for business people to comment on the law and most did not know what she was talking about. After 20 miles she finally found the pizza place. It was the reporter who asked all the questions and the pizza owner just gave her answers. So where is the scam?

It was the reporter coming into their place looking for controversy. If that reporter had not stepped through that door no one would have ever heard of the place. Now they are going to double their size and do a huge business.

Nothing but a big scam by the pizza place to finance a retirement fund. They probably were already going down the tubes when they came up with this plan.

Seriously. There are all sorts of ways of getting married, all sorts of weddings, all sorts of food served. If all you can imagine is expensive or catered food, I feel sorry for you.

I've been married 3 times.
First when quite young, the whole church, sit down dinner, champagne thing.
Second was signing the certificate and mailing it in, then going for a walk in the forest.
Third was with immediate family in attendance, words written by us, with a potluck afterwards for friends and extended family.

Guess which one means the most to me.

My cousin eloped and they ate take out Chinese after their wedding and yes, they are gay.

Stop with the "who would be tacky enough to serve pizza" crap, the "especially a gay lesbian" wedding. There is no one right way to celebrate and nothing that says pizza is related to any sexual orientation.

Elitism and bigotry "well gays won't do that" is unseemingly. Please.
