Elizabeth Warren Chastised For labeling Herself Native American---Jeb Bush Registered As Hispanic

This may come as a surprise to his parents:

According to the document, obtained from the Miami-Dade County Elections Department, Mr. Bush checked off “Hispanic” in the field labeled “race/ethnicity.”

Carolina Lopez, deputy supervisor of elections for Miami-Dade, explained that voters first submit hard copies of applications with a signature before receiving a voter information card confirming their address and polling location.

According to the Florida Division of Elections, the application requires an original signature because the voter is swearing or affirming an oath.

...................

There is little doubt that Jeb Bush possesses strong credentials for appealing to Hispanic voters.

He speaks fluent Spanish. His wife, Columba Bush, was born in Mexico. For two years in his 20s, he lived in Venezuela, immersing himself in the country’s culture.

Mr. Bush, a former Florida governor and likely presidential candidate, was born in Texas and hails from one of America’s most prominent political dynasties. But on at least one occasion, it appears he got carried away with his appeal to Spanish-speaking voters and claimed he actually was Hispanic.

In a 2009 voter-registration application, obtained from the Miami-Dade County Elections Department, Mr. Bush marked Hispanic in the field labeled “race/ethnicity.

It wasn't a lie. Jeb Bush has NOT ONE DROP OF HISPANIC BLOOD.

So, he lied. Period.

heritage. I have been told by the genealogical-minded folks in my family that we are descended from a guy who emigrated to Pennsylvania from England or Ireland around 1678 or so, and married a Lenni-Lenape woman and raised a family. I have no reason to doubt them. If I thought that information would help my grandson get into a more prestigious college in any way, I would certainly look into it.

My grandfather's father was the son of French Creoles in Mexico city. They immigrated into El Paso after Porifero Diaz did his thing. Some of my cousins claim 'Hispanic" ancestry. I do not as I feel Hispanic is meant to apply to indigenous people's of Mexico and Central America under affirmative action, not Europeans who immigrated to Mexico.

Now,it is funny because in Mexico, most people do not break down race like they do here in America. Probably because when Mexico broke from Spain, they outlawed listing race on any documents. Mexicans see themselves as Mexicans for the most part. It is a good thing.

Just my thoughts though.

If he goes back enough generations, he can claim to be African American!

Still further back... he can claim to be a fish.

that one is whatever one self-identifies as? Didn't we all (almost all) agree that Chelsea Manning can be a female if she identifies and feels like a female? She can check the "female" box on forms?

So why can't Elizabeth Warren and Jebbie be what they want to be?

You are what you feel you are. I learned that here on DU. So if Jebbie feels like a hispanic, then he is a hispanic.

Do try to keep up.
