What began as a response from the Vermont House to Indianas controversial Religious Freedom Restoration Act has become a reaffirmation of Vermonts record of prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.
The House adopted a resolution Friday that broadly responds to the Indiana law, condemning that and similar measures in other states.

Vermont has had LGBT legal protections against discrimination for 25 years.

I hope so. One other republican who wasn't there said if she had been she probably would have voted in support because of peer pressure.

(16,420 posts)with it. I have a daughter in college there and am lucky enough to visit occasionally. Vermont is the state I want to live and retire in. I haven't been anywhere else like it. The state and it's people are beautiful inside and out.

(114,904 posts)taciturn and unfriendly. When I moved here over 30 years ago, I was shocked by how friendly people were.

(16,420 posts)people were there. On one occasion a man stopped us on the street to chat after seeing our tag and that we were from out of town. He wasn't from Vermont originally, but moved there for part of the year and made it clear how much he loves it. Everyone we met was friendly and helpful.
My shy daughter said, "We're not in the South. Why are people talking to us?" LOL!

(3,795 posts)When I walk my dogs in my neighborhood NO ONE engages. They don't smile, say a word, or even look up to see who is there. And I live in a suburb that is fairly nice.
I can't wait to move from here.
And, I found Vermont to be VERY friendly when I visited. I visited Greensboro (amazing), Burlington, St. Johnsbury, and Montpelier.
I don't know if I could handle the winters, but if I could I would love, love, love to live there (visited in fall during peak season).

(769 posts)Unfortunately for very good paying job reasons, my wife and I are moving to northeast Connecticut. Still closer to Vermont and I wouldn't be surprised that my wife and I will retire in VT in 40 years later, if we all are still alive on this world.
