what the hell is going on in this country? Between really stupid repubs, all the racism going on, bigotry, and
all kinds of really bad shit, and, the very FAST growing of the Islam religion (will the largest in the world by
2050), is there anything at all that can get us back to some sensible behavior?
It is making me more and more glad I'm 80 with probably not too many years left.
The whole damn world is going to hell - Israel and other over in that part of the world!!

And do you actually know any Muslims? Ever met any? There are several different schools of though in Islam; many Muslims (most Western Muslims, probably!) are moderate (moreso than the Christian fundamentalists who want to send people who don't believe as they do to prison, or whatever, certainly).

3. 24/7 news cycle

We didn't talk about the kid who's dad beat him and never was quite right afterwards. Nor did we have TV coverage of all the racist shit people endured in the old south. Today somebody farts and it gets it's own Youtube channel. In many cases this is not bad to have the light of day shine upon that which used to only be heard in whispers and innuendo. But it does make it seem like the world is going to hell in a handbasket. But really it's less so then what it once was. We just talk about it more openly now.

It seems that the human race periodically goes bonkers, following absolutely its worst members over a cliff into fascism, plutocracy, theocracy, and other "ocracies" and "isms" that are the most damaging to the human spirit. There's a huge war over the top of the dungheaps, a few reforms come in as starving people try to rebuild, and the whole cycle starts over again after too few decades of breathing easy.

There are always people who realize what's going on and try to issue warnings, but people lost in fantasy have a poor track record of hearing warnings and a great track record of punishing the people who issue them.

I see the same old delusional patterns reasserting themselves just as you do. I'm at a loss about what, if anything, can be done to wake delusional people up, as you are.

I feel so terribly sorry for the young.
