FRESNO, Calif. (AP) — A puppy in California apparently is doing OK after he fell about 50 feet down an old well casing and was rescued by firefighters.

In this Tuesday, April 7, 2015 photo, Fresno Fire Department firefighter Mark Garcia lowers a rope down an old well shaft to rescue a trapped puppy in Fresno, Calif. The puppy, which appeared to be a shepherd mix and only a few months old, fell about 50 feet down an uncovered metal pipe about eight inches in diameter within a garage. It took fire crews about an hour to pull the puppy to safety. (AP Photo/Fresno Bee, John Walker)

Fresno Fire Department spokesman Pete Martinez says the puppy dropped into the uncovered metal pipe Tuesday in a Fresno garage. The pipe was about 8 inches in diameter.

The Fresno Bee reports (http://bit.ly/1c8jTzt) it took firefighters about an hour to recover the dog named Timmy, which appeared to be a shepherd mix and only a few months old.
They lowered a knotted rope into the hole, looped it around the puppy's legs and torso, and pulled him to safety.

No idea why it wasn't covered. So many fell in the well stories over the years. Usually a bad result.
