Obama: McCain trusts the Ayatollah more than he trusts John Kerry, a former Senator and Vietnam vet

<...>

The president blasted the Arizona senator on Saturday for his recent comments questioning how forthcoming the secretary of state has been about what’s contained in the preliminary nuclear deal with Iran.

During a press conference Saturday, Obama praised Kerry’s service to the country, noting that he’s a former senator and a Vietnam veteran.

For McCain (R-Ariz.) to imply that Kerry “is somehow less trustworthy in the interpretation of what’s in a political agreement than the supreme leader of Iran, that’s an indication of the degree to which partisanship has crossed all boundaries,” Obama said.

Earlier in the week, the Republican senator, who is also a Vietnam veteran, declared that when it came to the preliminary nuclear deal with Iran: “John Kerry is delusional.”

He is apparently willing to sell his principles to the most rightwing elements of the Republican Party.

T hey g ot t o k now . each other well when Kerry chaired a committee to look into whether any American soldiers were still being held in Vietnam.

McCain 's book on that time had the best description I have read about Kerry's work on it. His praise ranged from how well Kerry did getting real concessions by Vietnam to let them go anywhere unannounced, to getting a committee with some real loose cannons working on a very emotional issue all to agree to a process to look into everything and to systematically investigate, and to get a statement approved unanimously at the end. He also thanked Kerry on a personal level speaking of how many times when he was on the verge of exploding, Kerry was able to calm him down. McCain seemed near a break down and it was Kerry who helped him.

After that they cosponsored much legislation to benefit veterans. In his book McCain said the ideas were both of theirs and Kerry wrote them because he was the lawyer. It seems clear Kerry's goal was to get good things done.

Now, the fact that Kerry is helping Obama turn policy away from McCain ' s neoconservative dreams. I would guess he still genuinely likes Kerry as a person but sees him ruining all the wars that McCain thinks will make the world better.

.... Kerry had three purple hearts, a bronze star, and a silver star and he never lost
1 man doing some of the most hazardous duty in the war. The man is a real hero then
and he is still one now for trying to keep us out of another unneeded war.
