General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI don't get hillary's campaign roll out at all.
She's been widely criticized for being unapproachable and elitist. Why choose to kick off your campaign with a tweet and a film on social media from a jet, 30,000 feet over "flyover" country?
It just doesn't project what I think she needs to project.

(114,904 posts)do you think this is a good plan for her campaign roll out? Sorry, I don't. How about a rally in Iowa? Or even a small gathering in Iowa in front of supporters, concurrent with tweets and a film?

(114,904 posts)at all. I've always felt that sort of "support" was very unhealthy.

(36,221 posts)You can think all you want that your "criticism" is the most important thing in the world.
Others can think differently.
FarPoint
(12,368 posts)That criticism always follows...has been factored into the campaign plan...it's a known variable/factor. Hillary can navigate criticism better than any soul on this earth I believe.

If you don't like her or her views, you can vote for someone else.

by the time of the election the roll out will be long forgotten.

If she wins the nomination she has my vote, but she needs to earn the nomination. A coronation isn't good for anyone.

I guess she is trying to look Presidential. Unfortunately she may end up looking like this....

(94,571 posts)The announcement is a formality. If she did it at a rally of 10,000 people, she'd be visible, but not accessible either.

(82,383 posts)There are several posters we know were never going to like Hillary's roll out. Of course. this is the first one.
I predict they won't find Hillary to do a single thing right. The logo and bumperstickers will be wrong.
Being a woman I bet we will find that they criticize her dress.

(58,724 posts)If you could've designed Hillary's campaign roll out, what would it look like?
boston bean
(36,221 posts)You know... how most people enter a presidential race..... LOL
cali
(114,904 posts)at fairly small gathering of supporters- outside if the weather permitted and no more than a couple of hundred.
oberliner
(58,724 posts)However, I do think if she did something like that people would accuse her of pandering and trying to appear folksy and being a phony and all the rest of it.
I think she is kind of in a lose-lose situation. Releasing a video on social media, where she can control the message and get it out there relatively spin-free (as much as that is possible, which is not much) seems like as good a roll-out as any.
I can understand the sentiments behind this quote:
We just wanted to get this thing over with and get on with it, a soon-to-be-Clinton staffer said on condition of anonymity.

(60,536 posts)and you would have the same OP posted here this a.m.; "I don't get hillary's campaign roll out at all."
cali
(114,904 posts)DonViejo
(60,536 posts)that doesn't mean you haven't defended her, just that I've never seen it. From the comments above it looks like a lot of DU'ers might agree with me; your reputation precedes you and is well established.
cali
(114,904 posts)I've actually defended her quite a bit. Do I criticize her more than defend her? Yes. So what?
DonViejo
(60,536 posts)I said, "it doesn't mean you haven't defended her, I just haven't seen it." Also, my dear, you have an interesting way of deflecting; I still maintain, regardless of how Sec'y Clinton announced her candidacy, you'd have an OP entitled, "I don't get hillary's campaign roll out at all." Your reputation does precede you, whether you like it or not. Your disdain for Sec'y Clinton even extends to your inability to capitalize the first letter of her name; "I don't get hillary's campaign roll out at all."
I didn't deflect. I did give an alternative that I think would be better, honeybunch. And I'm yes, lazy about caps. has nothing to do with dissing her.
I don't have disdain for her personally. I do for her as a politician. Yes, there's a distinction.
but whatever, donny.
If you knew the extent and depth of the insult you just threw at me, by referring to me as "donny," I think you might be begging for my forgiveness. But, then again, given your reputation, probably not, insults and condescension are your forte. Obviously you're not interested in an honest discussion so, have a great day.

(6,262 posts)Also the same generation of my closest diehard Dem friends. While we want her to win and win big enough to turn the Senate, we are leery of her in many ways already commented on in other threads.
The group I speak of met for dinner last week and no one is crazy about her. We split between her and Obama in '08. We are all in retirement years, female and should be her biggest supporters. We were surprised amongst ourselves that we had each come to the same worried feeling independently.
We each felt we would see it the same way for a male candidate.
Make no mistake, we will vote for her, and probably even in the primary season, but Cali has legitimate observations IMO.

(7,908 posts)the press would also crucify her as a 'phony' if she tried to do it in front of a town hall or small gathering. I'm giving her and her staff a pass on the roll-out, as there was no way to launch without triggering the haters out there. (Not saying that you're a 'hater,' but instead that the misogynists and reactionaries out there will stop at nothing to try to damage her prospects.)
Full disclsure: Of those who have announced or expressed interest in running, my current preferences are as follows:
1) Bernie Sanders
2) Hillary Clinton
3) Vice President Biden
I'd like to put Governor O'Malley into the mix, but I know very little about him and his positions. He's said a lot of nice things but I'm fairly unfamiliar with his record right now.
