If a candidate, let's say Hillary, announced a desire to 'LIFT THE CAP' to help fund Soc Security (Original Post) NoJusticeNoPeace Apr 2015 OP
IF she makes it clear why she would do that I think she would gain a lot of support. jwirr Apr 2015 #1
Some may not even know the cap exists, it would take some education. NoJusticeNoPeace Apr 2015 #3

It MUST be done, or they are gonna take our social security away, someday.

Sure, 25% will always be against something that impacts the wealthy, because they are stupid, but i think the other 75% can be educated.

And if she actually did it, my god, we all might not have to decide between heat and tv..sure you will have enough for electricity but how about $25 for cable tv?

I know, how spoiled can we get.

If all of us only knew how the rich lived and what they thought of us, there would be a big problem.

Of course the usual suspects on the right would start wailing about it being a TAX INCREASE .

that there even is a cap - I'm betting that most don't know. And, I think that if the cap goes up, there has to be at least some increase (not fully proportional) increase in benefits for the top end. The payout formula must remain progressive, but I think there will be a deafening backlash if higher incomes are fully taxed, but benefits for those taxpayers remain the same.

favor of a progressive system which is what it must be.

We cant survive otherwise.

Just like we cant survive without a fair, progressive income tax system, which we really dont have now

think SSA will be there for them when they retire. This is why this needs to be passed.

And I disagree that we don't have a progressive income tax system - I believe we do, when it comes to income taxes. The problem, IMO, is that too much of what should be considered income isn't.

I'll just be glad when the day comes and my Boss doesn't come out of his office and says well I finally paid all Social Security for the year. Extra money starting next payday. Every year like clockwork.
