Hillary Rodham Clintons presidential campaign is all about everyday Americans, she made clear in announcing it on Sunday.
On Monday, she showed how unassuming she herself could be.
Driving to Iowa for her first campaign swing, Mrs. Clintons van with two aides and Secret Service agents aboard pulled into a Chipotle restaurant for lunch in Maumee, Ohio, a suburb of Toledo.
And no one recognized her.

(17,108 posts)between Hillary and her unassuming Chipotle trip, and Paul Ryan bogarting his way into a soup kitchen and washing clean pans. I don't think this trip-wire condemnation and blocking is appropriate. You may want to re-think your behavior and apologize.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/post-politics/wp/2012/10/15/charity-president-unhappy-about-paul-ryan-soup-kitchen-photo-op/
The head of a northeast Ohio charity says that the Romney campaign last week ramrodded their way into the groups Youngstown soup kitchen so that GOP vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan could get his picture taken washing dishes in the dining hall.
Brian J. Antal, president of the Mahoning County St. Vincent De Paul Society, said that he was not contacted by the Romney campaign ahead of the Saturday morning visit by Ryan, who stopped by the soup kitchen after a town hall at Youngstown State University.
Were a faith-based organization; we are apolitical because the majority of our funding is from private donations, Antal said in a phone interview Monday afternoon. Its strictly in our bylaws not to do it. They showed up there, and they did not have permission. They got one of the volunteers to open up the doors.
He added: The photo-op they did wasn't even accurate. He did nothing. He just came in here to get his picture taken at the dining hall.

If Hillary's campaign had planned this, it couldn't have gone better: No obvious photo-op, just get in, take a bite, get out. Nothing artificial like doing dishes in front of the camera. Something authentic.

(55,981 posts)your point here. The Clintons are members in great standing with $100,000,000 wealth, of the top club of the 1%. I am not surprised that common people don't recognize her.

(12,809 posts)... even though their progressive cred makes them more overtly "supportive of the 99%" than Hillary.
Who a politician represents is not that big a factor in determining who common folk are going to recognize on the street.
I think Hillary's anonymous Chipotle's run reflects the idea that regular American workers are far too busy trying to make ends meet and/or are way too inundated by iPhones and Kardashians to take notice of the "boring" grind of politics.
=======================
boston bean
(36,221 posts)Come on, this 99% number is complete malarkey...
We are a divided nation. There is no way that 99% of the people would support any democratic presidential candidate.
Hint, a good portion of that 99% is against your principles... and would never, ever vote for a democrat. They are called republicans.
Beartracks
(12,809 posts)I was reacting to and recycling some verbiage from Rhett O Rick's post, which implied that the Chipotle workers' lack of recognition for Hillary was somehow indicative of her lack of support for anyone but Wall Street. My point was: Even politicians who make no bones about supporting working Americans are probably not well-recognized by working Americans, so Rhett's assertion was kind of a stretch.

(81,239 posts)used to watching out for famous people. I always had to because I worked in entertainment in Los Angeles. And depending on where you were, you might see some Oscar winner at the grocery store or heading into the dry cleaners' or some such unspectacular location. My daughter and I ran into Julia Roberts standing in line at a local Starbucks one Sunday morning. If you weren't used to scanning for celebrities, you wouldn't have recognized her. And she was unspectacular-looking, too. She was in her jammies with her hair kind of disheveled - which is pretty much how everybody else looked, standing in line at the local Starbucks on a Sunday morning.
If you don't expect it, then you won't expect it.

(14,040 posts)so I'm sure I see politicians all the time but I don't necessarily notice it. I went the anti-police brutality march here in DC this past year and Al Sharpton walked right past. Didn't even notice but I'm weird that way.

I'd be lost. I can't keep track of 'em anymore!

(30,247 posts)Hillary and Bill are the most accessible WH couple according to the SS. Anyone who lives in Chappaqua knows this. They do the things that anyone living in a community would do. They take regular walks with their dogs, they go to Starbucks, the local restaurants and other shops. Anyone can approach them. Heck, I have a friend who lives a few blocks away from them and has a pic of Hillary, who was then the SOS, and Chelsea at a lingerie store. Hillary was shopping for bras. Another time this friend saw her at the local drug store buying hair clips and scrunchies for her hair.
I don't know why some of you think that just because the Clintons have made a substantial amount of money after leaving the WH that they have ceased to act like normal human beings.

(135,425 posts)It's what happens when people want to sit on their good intentions and expect an "alternative candidate" to leap up and dance to please them, without anything more than "keyboard support" that consists of trashing anyone who isn't their favorite. HRC has gotten way too much of that on this so-called Democratic board.
When that Magical Candidate doesn't do what they want, despite typing pleas over and over again, and other candidates who have support, like Clinton and Webb, move forward, they're left feeling resentful.
Sour grapes--it's what's for dinner!
