(45,251 posts)Sarah Palin's politics are disgusting, but the amount of criticism she was given based on her appearance alone made my head spin.
But I did see the outrage coming when it comes to Hillary.

1) Someone got pissed because you made fun of Hillary Clinton's hair?

(45,251 posts)I hate that classification. For everyone else, it's equal rights, for women, it's feminism or women's lib.
Would be okay with you to call an African American Republican or a gay Republican some vile name you would never call a Democrat?
I don't know that I agree that every comment on a female candidate's appearance is sexism. Then again, some definitely are.
However, it's been posted here that any comment about a female candidate's appearance is sexism. So if you believe that, the OP does indeed show hypocrisy.
treestar
(82,383 posts)I think I've reached the point where it's not sexism as we spend plenty of time making fun of men for their hair and looks. The Turtle, Eddie Munster, Trump's horrible hair, and a recent thread on how creepy Ted Cruz looks make me comfortable.
It might be when it is clothes, since men don't get crap about that - they have the suit and tie uniform. But I admit I enjoyed the image in one of the 2008 debates where all of the candidates were pictured lined up. Hillary was wearing a brightly colored suit and it let her stand out among the suits!

(62,325 posts)viewed as sexist for Democratic women only, that is called 'hypocrisy'.
As you pointed out, Palin is a Republican, there is plenty to attack her on other than her hairdo.
treestar
(82,383 posts)in every sexist manner possible.

(62,325 posts)And they are only waiting, it's already happened, to attack Liberals/Feminists for attacking a woman on her personal appearance, and call it hypocrisy. They have already done so.
I don't believe in handing weapons to the enemy.
I believe in defeating them where they are weakest.

(7,820 posts)I despise Palin, but that doesn't mean sexist attacks on her should get a pass. I'm not a huge Hillary Clinton fan, I'd prefer someone else, but I do think some of the attacks on her (attacks on appearance, for example) are sexist, and should be called out.

(36,221 posts)Cause I got the sneaking suspicion that he is trying to prove that since it was done to Palin it is ok to do it to Hillary..
That is what he means by hypocrisy...
He can clear it up.

(30,151 posts)In a couple of those threads there are some DU'ers calling out the fact that how Palin looks has no fucking bearing on her credibility as a candidate but those posts are far and few in between-
Of course, I could go down the path of everyone who has made fun of Mitch McConnell the turtle but I've done that thread before

(30,151 posts)When people make fun of a politicians looks is it truly sexism or just trying to knock them down?
Here is a thread with you commenting on RMoney's hair-
was that sexist?

(36,221 posts)But this link:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=6500857
wouldn't necessarily be, according to snooper2.....
Now back to the meat of the conversation..
If you do not believe the comments are sexist, you ARE saying that the hypocrisy is on those who feel it is.
This is a strawman thread, in support of sexist commentary.
It was sexist to do it to Palin, it is sexist to do it to Hillary. Your wanting to make some kind of point that it occurred on DU prior as evidence it isn't sexist, is ridiculous.
snooper2
(30,151 posts)I didn't SAY your comment on RMoney's hair WAS sexist-
I ASKED you if it was-
Clarification on aisle 14 Please!
boston bean
(36,221 posts)I am correct, you are drawing false analogies to try to make it seem that discussing Hillary's hair styles is not sexist.
Proof of that is in the link you provided of what you feel was to an extent sexist, and trying to paint people as hypocritical.
When in fact you really don't feel any of it is sexist and are trying to bolster your own beliefs.

And, is pretty much just lazy, wants a talking gig on Faux News,

(1,591 posts)What about the "Sarah Palin is secretly raising the down syndrome baby of her daughter"
that "story" and the subsequent rush to push that "truth" as far as it would go, taught me some very valuable lessons about what Democratic Underground is capable of.
1 Democrat women are made to feel the oppression of struggling in the white man world. -and two-
2 republican women deserve to be belittled in anyway possible, and their children are to be included, and there is nothing off the table. Including sexually explicit photo shopping to mock their physical appearance

yardwork
(61,599 posts)Her appearance is not a valid reason for criticism. It's purely sexist.
And before you mention Trump's hair - his hair looks so odd it is a valid reason for comment. His hair is ridiculous and the comb over is reflective of his absurd vanity. It's not sexist to laugh at Donald Trump's bizarre hair style. It is sexist to snipe at perfectly mainstream appearances of Palin and Hillary Clinton.
Knock it off. Stop with the sniping at female politicians' clothes, hairstyles, etc.
NM_Birder
(1,591 posts)Just like Trump, he did it on purpose .......PAID someone to do that to his hair just like Trumpy. I doubt seriously Donald trump wipes his own ass let alone styles his own hair.
