Ypsilanti firefighters rescue kittens during training

The Ypsilanti Fire Department on Thursday made an unexpected rescue: several tiny kittens.

And crews didn't even need to leave the station.

Firefighters were training at a tower behind the station, located at 525 W. Michigan Ave., Thursday afternoon when they saw a grown cat darting away, according to Captain Scott Madison.

"We heard some kittens meowing," he said.

Five kittens were discovered underneath a stairwell of the tower. A sixth kitten was unfortunately deceased, Madison said.

If someone abandoned them, that person should be used for their next training session. Arugula Latte Apr 2015 #2

Unfortunately, with a large litter one not making it isn't uncommon.

The training session where they learn how to do everything wrong and there is NO rescue!

That cat doesn't look feral to me. She looks like some idiot who didn't spay her and now she's having litters outside. That's how feral populations get started. Sigh. Hopefully she and her babies will find responsible, loving homes. Good job to all those who took the time to care.

Fighfighters rule, cops are jadrools.

I wish I could take them all! But they should have no trouble finding a good home for such a beauty.
