Unbelievable! We are now going to replace trees with solar panels to reduce emissions, as indicated in the April 29 Business story "Should woodlands be sacrificed to make room for solar farms?" Talk about insanity. Are these not the same people who screamed about destruction of the rainforest not so long ago and who want to preserve nature?
Let's get serious: Greenhouse gases are present at only trace levels in the atmosphere and have no affect on the climate. If they did, they would block the sun's radiation (heat) from reaching the Earth, causing a cooling of the climate. Instead, we are to believe that the sun's heat passes through these gases to reach the Earth and then these same gases, by some unknown process, prevent this heat from escaping. Impossible.
An infrared spectral exam of carbon dioxide shows it to be almost completely transparent to infrared radiation and further proves it is not involved with any climate change. Carbon dioxide is targeted because it is linked to fossil fuels. The phony concern about greenhouse gases is nothing more than a smoke screen to conceal efforts to control and tax energy producers. Let's save the trees and stop wasting taxpayers' money on solar and wind farms.
John M. Sanders, Painesville
I wonder how Mr. Sanders explains the operation of actual greenhouses, which utilize the same "unknown process".

(14,094 posts)Corporations can spread lies effectively because of that type of ignorance. Sanders could inform himself on this issue with about 5 minutes worth of research, less time than it took him to write his LTTE.
I hope there is a tremendous response to his letter setting him straight on the science.

(11,175 posts)Destroying woodlands does cause a loss of wildlife habitat, regardless of whether the land is then used for a solar farm or a Wal-Mart.
It's interesting that the writer raises this valid concern in the first paragraph and then goes completely off the rails in the second paragraph.
