Duhok, Iraqi Kurdistan (CNN) In the canvas expanse of the Shariya refugee camp, thousands of Yazidis live within hearing distance of one of Iraqi Kurdistan's frontlines with ISIS.
The vast majority of the camp's occupants are from the town of Sinjar and fled the ISIS assault there back in August. But not everyone escaped. ISIS took thousands of Yazidis captive.
Men faced a choice -- convert to Islam or be shot. But the Islamist militants separated the young women and girls to be sold as sex slaves.
In its fourth edition of "Dabiq," the ISIS online magazine, an article titled "The revival of slavery before the hour," outlines the group's twisted justification and guidelines for the enslavement of the Yazidis.
"One should remember that enslaving the families of the kuffar (infidels) and taking their women as concubines is a firmly established aspect of Shariah," the article reads.

(9,117 posts)Should any of the wanna-be Jihadis from the USA participate in this barbarism, it is my fervent hope that when they come back to the States after their escapades, that teams of investigators and prosecutors investigate and prosecute these little <censored>, and that unsympathetic judges and juries convict and sentence these wretches to the maximum penalty.

(785 posts)There is no "right" version of Islam vs a "wrong" one. There are only different interpretations - much like Baptists, Catholic, etc... Now you might not like certain interpretations, but you cant say it's not Islam. See here:

(15,445 posts)I did NOT say it wasn't Islam.
I said 'perversion' of Islam, c'est à dire, 'perverted interpretation' of Islam.

(785 posts)Your analysis that its a perversion doesnt take into account the large number of people that believe it. You might can call fringe splinter groups a perversion (although I don't know that numbers really matter per se).
Would you call it a perversion if it was the majority global Islam view? Perversion to whom and in what sense?
That said... you should still read that article. It's one of the best ones on ISIS to date.

I saw and quickly read Atlantic's piece when it came out in March.
