According to the AMAs attorney Monica Miller, the eighth grade student contacted the association through their website DontSayThePledge.com to report that the nurse had refused treatment for her....
The student reportedly told the nurse, when questioned why she was not standing, that she had the right not to stand. The nurse, in return, said, Fine, then leave! I have the right not to service you!
The student reports that she left the nurses office in tears and went to the administrative offices to call her mother, Miller wrote, according to MSN. A secretary then led the student to an office, but at that time the same nurse appeared again, saying, She isnt calling a parent until I have a long conversation with her! Still sobbing, the student said she only wanted to call her mother.

(39,961 posts)about a medical professional refusing to treat a patient because "reasons". The other was a story about a pharmacist that wouldn't fill a prescription for a woman that had a miscarriage and her doctor prescribed her something to help eject the dead fetus so that she didn't have to have surgery to remove it.
If you are entering or in the medical profession and feel that you cannot treat people equally and fairly, for God's sake get a different job. Refusal of service because "reasons" is the last thing a sick person needs.

(146,307 posts)School nurses don't get to choose who to serve. They work for the school, not the individual students. She refused to do her job. Someone should tell her, "You're fired! This security person will escort you out of the building."
