More shootings revealed at Nevada prison where handcuffed inmate killed

Associated Press in Las Vegas
Wednesday 15 April 2015 18.17 BST

More unreported shootings are coming come to light after the disclosure that a guard shot a handcuffed inmate to death at a Nevada prison where guns were fired more than 200 times in a recent five-year period.

Six inmates were wounded by shotgun blasts from a guard breaking up a breakfast scuffle in January 2012 at High Desert state prison outside Las Vegas, according to federal lawsuits filed on behalf of three wounded inmates. A state lawsuit was filed on behalf of a fourth wounded inmate.

Six months later, inmate Dario Olivas was blinded in one eye when a guard fired a shotgun to stop two other inmates fighting in the dinner hall, according to documents filed by attorney Cal Potter in US district court in Las Vegas.

The Nevada department of corrections deputy chief, Brian Connett, said by email on Tuesday that he was out of the state and unable to respond to questions about state and federal lawsuits reviewed by the Associated Press. Department officials have routinely declined to comment about litigation and investigations.

Mentally ill man scalded to death in Miami Dade Jail in 2012. No one held accountable as of 2015.

The purported details of Darren Rainey’s last hour are difficult to read.

“I can’t take it no more, I’m sorry. I won’t do it again,’’ he screamed over and over, according to a grievance complaint from a fellow inmate, as Rainey was allegedly locked in a shower with the scalding water turned on full blast.

A 50-year-old mentally ill inmate at the Dade Correctional Institution, Rainey was pulled into the locked shower by prison guards as punishment after defecating in his cell and refusing to clean it up, said the fellow inmate, who worked as an orderly. He was left there unattended for more than an hour as the narrow chamber filled with steam and water.

When guards finally checked on prisoner 060954, he was on his back and dead. His skin was so burned that it had shriveled from his body, a condition referred to as slippage, according to a medical document involving the death.

But nearly two years after Rainey’s death on June 23, 2012, the Miami-Dade medical examiner has yet to complete an autopsy and Miami-Dade police have not charged anyone. The Florida Department of Corrections halted its probe into the matter, saying it could be restarted if the autopsy and police investigation unearth new information.

Nevada is run by the Vegas Strip and Mining Groups. In saying that,it's all about Racial Intimidation and the use of force to control certain Ethnic Population Groups, and at the same time using these Groups as a profit center. Nevada is a right to work for less state, and baby it shows. Unemployment is huge, and the folks that are able to find jobs, well,if you are in Construction your wages are still below the National Average, and if you work for the Hospitality Industry, good luck, you are going to get screwed six ways to Sunday. Same for the folks who work at the Prisons,8 bucks and hour and if you have a pulse your hired. High Desert is 60 miles from Vegas and that alone tells you a story in it self.

Still remember a friend that was bullied in High School, well he got hire as a Wisconsin Highway Patrol Officer, suddenly the friendship ended, someone turned into a Bully with a Badge.

that joining the police force is an honorable profession ???

Would you marry a police officer ???

Do you respect police officers ???

Do you support our penal system ???

My answer is NO to all of the above !!!!!!!!!!

I am a 61 year old white female.

I am ashamed, embarrassed, and disgusted with my country.

We are a vengeful hateful country.

We do support torture, in our country, and around the globe.

This sickens me to my very core !!!!!!!!!!!!
