(16,191 posts)If you have a good camera, decent production skills, a unique knowledge or skillset, and a voice and personality that can sell it, anyone can do this sort of thing.
The guy is one of my wife's former coworkers. He was an elementary school teacher who skis and snowboards as a hobby. He started posting reviews of various western ski resorts and of ski/snowboard equipment on YouTube, and started attracting a lot of followers. Nowadays, the ski resorts comp him lift tickets and the ski equipment manufacturers and clothing companies send him samples to be reviewed on camera. He makes six figures annually just from YouTube ad revenue, and that's AFTER he pays the camera guy.
