Mitt needs the Catholic voite, and Santorum is conservative Catholic.
Santorum also fits the Dobson mindset.

It's Rubio.

(9,002 posts)Mitt is too calculating to pick a fringe running mate (re: Palin/Santorum).
And Mitt had no problem in the primaries winning the Catholic vote - he bested Ricky in almost every primary, even in states he lost.

Nate has commented as the primaries were still ongoing that Romney was winning the Catholic vote in state after state. I can't find it but I thought it was him who credited the Catholic vote with pushing Romney over in OH and MI

(31,011 posts)The hardcore conservs would love her and if she moderates her views, she might be able to help bring in the independent vote. She's not Sarah Palin and she can claim experience. If I was advising Mitts, I'd recommend Bachmann on the condition that her views become Romney's...which will never happen in a million years.
Bachmann is a vile and hateful person...she's perfect for the repub ticket.

(50,414 posts)Romney needs the votes of moderates and independents. Santorum scares them off with little advantage to Romney of getting voters that will already vote for him.
My guess is that he'll pick a low profile "moderate" (in the Republican sense of moderate) who'll keep his/her mouth shut about social issues.

(5,599 posts)picked a lunatic, Romney thinks he needs a person of color to counter Obama's brownness. He will pick Rubio or
Jindal, maybe go for the Trifecta Nicki Haley and lose.
