I don't believe in coronations. And Hillary, like everyone else, needs to earn it. So, by all means I encourage Sanders, O'Malley and even Warren to jump in. There are legitimate issues and questions of governance to discuss. Welcome one and all, let's have at it.

(30,058 posts)for the DNC platform is given. I don't understand those who post about inevitable and coronation. There has to be other candidates to declare, produce another candidate, work for them and let's get on with the primary. I am a Hillary supporter and others can support a candidate they feel is capable of doing the job.
Sometimes I think it is difficult for candidates to run for offices because of nasty statements thrown and families subjected to the same treatment. When I look at the hate trashing which occurs.

(36,221 posts)I'm not sure about all the handwringing ahead of time, it's still so early.... Seems to be based in criticism of Hillary only, like she is the one preventing it. Hell people were complaining prior that her not entering were the reason others couldn't...
Hell, anyone can enter the race if they want to.

(114,904 posts)I do think that challenging her is much like challenging a sitting President, but it's not her responsibility to appear vulnerable to a challenge. That would be ridiculous.
I think it's a good thing that O'Malley is speaking in specifics.
I'm sure you agree that it's a good thing that she's being challenged. Good for her, good for the process, good for Democrats.

(36,221 posts)is a personal affront...
So, yeah... I am a bit defensive... and I took the "I'm sure" you agree, as a challenge.
mea culpa.

(28,749 posts)These callouts where people suggest that some aren't interested in a primary are greatly over exaggerated.

(15,220 posts)I think there needs to be a robust debate. I also believe that primaries serve the additional step of the eventual nominee knowing his/her rivals well so that their talents can be, if appropriate, use in a new administration.
There's a process in place for a reason. Let that process work.

(3,580 posts)We need to generate interest in democrats and get people riled up to vote. We need all the free news reports. We need debates. We need down ballot interest to get the senate back. I'm looking forward to several people running.

(242 posts)It's been proven time and time again that the public will always vote for the real Republican vs. the Republican-Lite.
Apparently there are a ton of blinders on at DU when it comes to this fact.

(53,661 posts)We need to be truly UNITED and not fake 'united' by an image sold by big money. It didn't work for Romney; it won't work on Democrats.
The biggest part of this is the dissing of Obama using racial memes. The most loyal Democratic constituency are African-Americans. Their patience and party loyalty has worn thin and rightly so.
However, Obama, being the man that he is, forgave her all of that. He called it simply 'tough campaigning.' While I have been honored to have lived under our 44th President, one must remember he has his foot in several communities by upbringing and life experiences.
He was brought up mainly by a white family and loved. He spent time in a Muslim nation but became a Christian. He did not live through what many POC endured in this nation for centuries, and while he came to seek his African roots to broaden his outlook, he is very comfortable with whites and all racial, ethnic and religious types.
He was the perfect uniter. Then the hate began and it has not stopped. AA's cannot forget the racism in America exposed for all the world to see since 2008. They are heartbroken the land they live and their families have toiled in for generations under horrible oppression still denies their rights as citizens and as humans.
It is improper for Hillary or any other candidate to ask them to forget. It's not just what happening then or what happened before the election of 2008 that is gnawing on their bones. It is a lot of what has happened since.
I don't believe that HRC or any other Democrat can win without the votes of POC. It's the main cause of our demonization by the right. We just aren't 'American' to them. And we'll never get the GOP zealots. A few see the light but it will take a long time to undo the damage, if ever.
I want as many people who will run to be on that debate stage next year.
