General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI happened upon Mike Huckabee's show this evening and he showed two clips: one of Bush being
applauded by troops as he was coming to the podium to speak and one of Obama coming to the podium to a more subdued response from the troops in the audience. Huckabee's guest, a former navy seal made the comment that the troops knew that Bush loved them ... ...At that point I had to change the channel. These people are so evil and twisted. Bush loved the armed forces so much he was willing to send them off to unneccesary wars unprepared for battle.

(11,304 posts)google and ask the question WHO GOT THE MOST PRESIDENTIAL DONATIONS OBAMA OR ROMNEY FROM SOLDIERS
Go down where it says Military Shift contributions from Ron Paul to President Obama. Read it. I believe it. I come from a retired military family 3 generations and we are all democratics. We voted for Obama and will again. He has done more than any other president for military families. Especially Mrs Obama. I am stating facts.

You'd be amazed how they can manipulate sound in videos.

(45,274 posts)They just played the sound from a very directional mike that didn't pick u the crowd noise.
And if memory serves, I think it was one of the other networks that started it, but I could be wrong.

(82,849 posts)In the four days after that little rally, CNN ran the tape or the audio of the Dean Scream more than 600 times. Once Dean's candidacy had been destroyed, CNN allowed as how they might have, just maybe, overplayed the tape a weensy bit.

(36,974 posts)there was reason that the troops were quiet and not cheering - I can't remember the reason right now but at the time when it happened the talking heads said why the troops didn't cheer - it wasn't because of Obama it had something to do with the 'rules' the troops were under for that event: like they were in their military dress uniforms and not allowed to show emotion at the time or something like that.
And if I remember correctly Obama made two visits to the troops that day and at the other event the troops weren't in dress uniforms and were cheering like crazy.
I saw Huckabee's segment tonight too and it really made me made that he took the whole thing out of context.

(3 posts)Fatigues aren't dress uniforms. The dress uniform is not worn by us in theater. Where do you guys get this stuff???? Some were standing at attention and some were standing at parade rest, which is a modified position of attention. You are allowed to do one thing BREATHE. See, we're a little smarter than people give us credit for. We know how to show respect while showing what we truly feel. This comment is just another post that proves how little the people that use us as political pawns in speeches actually know about us. By the way, another thing you might want to notice is watching how the Marines salute the CIC when he leaves on his helicopter. They are required to salute. For Bush, they held their salute until he was out of sight. For Obama, they give the minimum requirement. (a standard no soldier or marine is ever satisfied with giving......the bare minimum)

Most of the currently-serving military are very anti-Bush and have become pro-Obama.

(3 posts)As a SSG in the U.S. Military, I would like to enlighten you on a few things. 1) We did love Bush. 2) Soldiers don't have political parties in combat, we have a Commander in Chief. Regardless of their political orientation, they are evaluated based upon how we are treated IN THEATER. Much like any leader, their troops judge them based upon how they lead. Quite frankly, for someone like you who refers to us as "them" being sent off to battle unprepared, I can deduce one fact at least. YOU WERE NEVER THERE!!! Know what else that tells me? You don't know jack about what you are talking about. You have sat under a blanket of freedom and digested what the media machine has fed you. People like you applaud us coming home when you don't have the faintest idea that leaving a job when it is only 90 percent finished tears us apart inside. Another thing you probably don't know is that we ACCEPT going to war with what you have. You did get one thing right though, we were unprepared. We didn't have the supply chain we needed. We didn't have the armor we needed. This was largely due to Clinton disassembling every significant support unit the U.S. Military had at it's disposal to guarantee our preparedness. Now, back on point, Bush gave us what we had. Bush allowed funding for our civilian counterparts to arm us with the tools necessary to defeat a dynamic enemy that was constantly innovative and met every countermeasure we could deploy against their methods. Some facts to back all of this up: (considering I served under both CIC's) Under Bush I never had orders come down to me to issue my men that stated "Don't shoot back when fired upon without a 300m clear backdrop. Have them fire at the ground instead." WTF??? Seriously?? Don't return fire? Here's another charmer: Under Bush we never had to worry about our CIC signing some SOFA that gave the power to the IA and the IP to arrest and detain us if they deemed our actions illegal. (We rapidly produced a countermeasure for this which was a laminated card in Farsi as well as Arabic that said in no uncertain terms "If you attempt to so much as touch myself or one of my soldiers I will consider it an act or war and paint the ground with what currently resides beneath your skull."
In conclusion, please allow me to clarify. "They" aren't your troops. "They" are MY troops. "They" were Bush's troops. Obama refused to wear OUR flag on his lapel because he said it showed support for the Iraq war. I was over there when I read that statement. Let me make this perfectly clear. We don't have politics, we don't have agendas, we have a mission. Lead us, follow us, or stfu and get the F*#K out of our way but for God's sake.......don't pretend to understand us or care for us and damn sure don't use US as some political statement such as the one that spawned this thread. Hooah?
