New Jersey political insiders tell National Review that Gov. Chris Christie (R) would gladly accept the vice-presidential nomination, should Mitt Romney offer it.
Said one top lawmaker: "Christie is open to it, his family's comfortable with it, and he's been vetted before. He isn't going to campaign for it, but it's no secret that he would relish the opportunity to play at that level."

THE GOPIG TICKET?
This would be just another case of the top of the GOP ticket being overshadowed by his VP selection (and Christie casts a pretty big shadow).

Christie is not going to win over any one of those demographics.

(2,185 posts)He'll suck all the air out of the room with Romney in it..
All the lights/attention will be laser focused on Christie,
he can't help it, he's a press hog...
Romney will be virtually ignored; that can't happen...
No, Christie's 'in your face' style will never work
anywhere out of Jersey. Sorry guys..

(23,295 posts)Coulter loves him and they love her. The loud-mouth Libertarians would go for him. I think you're right about the south and evangelical vote.
The pick will be all about the base, which is Romney's weak spot. Christie would do just as bad as Romney has with them. It's amusing that that two cycles in a row now the core conservative base has been unable to get one of their own nominated.

(28,017 posts)Christie's shadow encompasses 3 entire broadcast stations, (24 on cable, 17 on HD) whereas Romney has difficulty retaining an image on one station at any time, even if he buys the time.
The second thing that Christie has in abundance, after girth, that Willard does not, is attitude. Or in Christie's case, attiturd. I just can't see Willard taking the chance that someone on stage would be more interesting than he. His ego won't let him.
Remember how Romeny's debate coach was (mitt)treated? After a markedly improved performance, instead of getting a bonus and thanks, he got canned. Romney cannot stand anyone eclipsing him. Ever.

(35,438 posts)If Christie is the VP nominee, is he helping Romney win? Or, is he putting together his own coalition for a 2016 run?
I just don't see it. The Romney camp will put a tight leash around Christie.

(12,804 posts)She wanted Christie in the #1 slot, but she's resigned herself to Romney there. Putting Christie in the #2 slot would get her excited.
This ticket combo would definitely guarantee that Romney loses the women's vote. Christie is a bully who will drive women away in droves. He would also upstage Romney, so I don't see this ticket combo happening, unless Romney feels desperate.

(6,336 posts)It would not put NJ in play (and they have polled about it) and what the best case scenario for Democrats is that Christie becomes the next Palin. No he will not quit his job, but if NJ can finally learn the truth about this fat bastard, then his approval ratings will go down and he will go down in flames next year.

(6,145 posts)I think we've all known people like Romney. Appearances in other people are a direct expression of personal character to a man like that.
We are all aware of Christie's *cough* appearance. Just look at the picture posted above. Romney sees an undisciplined, smelly loudmouth that he's just barely able to tolerate.
No, Romney is going to go with Rubio or Ryan. At least I hope so because they can use this as their campaign logo:
