Ottawa police officer pleads not guilty in strip search case

Ottawa police Sgt. Steven Desjourdy pleaded not guilty today to sexual assault in the cellblock strip search of an Ottawa woman.

Desjourdy, who was charged in March 2011 by Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit, appeared in court on Monday morning.

The case dates back to Sept. 6, 2008, when officers took the woman into custody. A strip search of the 27-year-old was captured on surveillance video and then released to the public by a judge.

The video shows the woman being kneed several times, forced to the ground and pinned by four officers before having her bra and shirt cut off with scissors by Desjourdy.

Meanwhile, the high court in this nation ruled (Florence v. Burlington) that cops can strip search anyone who's arrested for any reason.
