New Kinloch mayor (MO) blocked by police from entering city hall

KINLOCH, MO (KTVI) – Our Fox 2 cameras were the only ones there as the newly-elected Kinloch mayor was greeted by police for her first day on the job.

Betty McCray was not only prevented from entering city hall, she was also told she’d been impeached before she got a chance to start.

McCray ran for mayor in the April 7 election and won.

“I won. The people spoke,” McCray said. “I was sworn in by the St. Louis County. Today I take office. I want them out, I want the keys.”

After the election results were certified earlier this week by the St. Louis County Board of Elections, Kinloch’s outgoing administration refused to allow the city clerk to give McCray the oath of office, claiming voter fraud.

The past two mayors were black, as is the city attorney who served the papers alleging voter fraud.

The town has issues, and looking into events the past few years is pretty corrupt. Given the circumstances though, it's more the previous leadership trying to maintain power by any means possible.

often is in a mayor/ council form of government.
Therefore my guess is the old mayor and the police must be hiding something.
They will not win - it will go to court and I would be 90% sure the new mayor will win.
For one thing, how could she be impeached - which implies malfeasance in office - when she has not spent one minute in office?

They better be hiding the bodies and scrubbing the books. But based on their actions here my guess is they will be no good at hiding their fuck ups.

If i was Ms. McCray my first act in office would be to fire the police chief and any accomplices.

Kennith Conway served since 99, but was removed sometime around 10-11 for fraud. Haven't found specific dates, but Darrin Small - One she beat - became mayor sometime around then, though he was almost ousted for legal matters as well.

Corruption is most likely, though the current mayor hasn't been serving that long.

The past two mayors are black, as is the city attorney who served papers alleging that Betty McCray committed voter fraud to win.

Considering this, it's highly unlikely that racism is key in this case as so many are so quick to assume.

Looking into events the past few years, that town looks extremely corrupt. I doubt it's racism that is driving this, rather just corrupt people hoping, desperately, that they can continue to maintain power.

Kinloch police cited Theda Wilson with a summons for resisting arrest and because she "fought with three police officers."

Kinloch police chief K. Williams says his department is investigating the incident and offered no other details. He told Daily RFT he wasn't even sure the incident had occurred because officers involved were not back on duty and therefore. Read more
