Anti-Gay GOP Lawmaker Outed After Sending Explicit Photo To Another Man

A Republican state legislator in North Dakota who used a smartphone app to send unsolicited explicit photos to another man has revealed that he is bisexual after the recipient leaked the photos to the press.

The Forum, a North Dakota-based newspaper, reported that the man who received the photos from the lawmaker, Randy Boehning, was upset that Boehning had voted against a sexual orientation nondiscrimination bill.

According to a voter guide [PDF] issued by the North Dakota Family Alliance, the state affiliate of the Family Research Council, Boehning said he supports North Dakota’s constitutional ban on same-sex marriage and opposes laws barring discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity. He also said he opposes “adding ‘sexual orientation’ to the list of criteria used to determine anti-bullying policies in our public schools.’”

5. I don't like to make generalizations

and certainly I'm sure that there are many violently anti-gay individuals who are heterosexual in orientation and actions, but this sort of revelation happens just often enough that you begin to wonder how many of the violently anti-gay politicians, clergy and just plain people are not being honest with themselves or others about their sexuality. I've seen on other postings GLBTQ DUers asking others not to do the "oh, it's just another self-loathing closeted GLBTQ" thing, and they certainly have a point, but darn it, as Groucho once put it, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar and so sometimes a violently anti-gay bigot is a self-loathing closeted GLBTQ. That would apparently be the case in point here. I hope Mr. Boehning has enough character to rethink his positions on marriage equality and equality in general. However, I'd not be surprised if in the near future we hear that he's been prayed over, had a conversion, is now totally straight and back doing Gawd's work against The Gay.

The exchange came to light when Dustin Smith, a 21-year-old Bismarck man with no known connections to the Capitol, contacted The Forum of Fargo-Moorhead earlier this month, saying he recognized Boehning from a gay dating smartphone app called Grindr. Chatting under the user name Top Man!, Boehning sent Smith sexually suggestive messages and, in the early morning hours of March 12, an unsolicited photo of his penis, according to exchanges reviewed by The Forum.

His user name was "Top man" on Grindr. He must have been an early member of Grindr to nab that user name without having to add his zip code or other numbers to the end of it.

These issues always tear me in half. I hate the abject hypocrisy and I hate seeing someone outed intentionally to cause embarrassment.
