Bud Light's "Up for Whatever" campaign is supposed to be about rallying people together for a good time, but today it seems to be uniting people primarily in anger at the brand.
A bottle of the Anheuser-Busch beer with the slogan, "The perfect beer for removing 'No' from your vocabulary for the night," has upset quite a few consumers, who say the messaging is a tone-deaf move considering the role alcohol frequently plays in rape cases.
A thread on Reddit posted on Monday evening brought attention to the slogan, part of a new wave of unique "Up for Whatever" bottles. The initial run, released in early December, featured 47 different messages to "intended to inspire spontaneous fun," according to the brand's press release.
This afternoon, Lisa Weser, senior director of U.S. marketing communications for Anheuser-Busch, admitted on Twitter that the phrasing on the bottle was regrettable:

@Adweek Its clear that this message missed the mark, and we regret it. We would never condone disrespectful or irresponsible behavior.

Rape isn't disrespectful or irresponsible behavior.
It's f---ing assault.
But that's never mentioned. And you're right, funny how they seem to get it when it comes to driving. Probably because a good chunk of their profit probably comes from rapey frat boys getting women and girls drunk. Wouldn't want to piss them off by speaking up against rape. Nope.
