Rand Paul Blames 'Lack of Fathers' For Baltimore Unrest, But His Own Son Is A Criminal

On conservative talk radio host Laura Ingraham’s show today, senator and presidential candidate Rand Paul blamed the riots in Baltimore on “the breakdown of the family structure” and “a lack of fathers,” among other things. Rand Paul’s own son has been arrested three times on alcohol-related charges, including assault.

<...>

At some point, the senator added, it will be appropriate to talk about those “root causes,” which don’t include police violence: “I took the train on Baltimore [sic] last night, I’m glad the train didn’t stop. But the things is, really, there are so many things we can talk about, not in the immediate aftermath, but over time: the breakdown of the family structure, the lack of fathers, the lack of a moral code in our society. This isn’t just a racial thing. It goes across racial boundaries.” Paul added that the country is “closer to the tipping point than many think.”

Rand Paul’s son William was most recently arrested for drunk driving earlier this month. No word from the senator yet on whether that too can be blamed on a lack of fathers and/or moral code.

4/23/15

Could you imagine if Malia Obama or Chelsea Clinton had a run-in with the law, especially if they were driving impaired? It would be plastered all over the TV, 24-7, even that "liberal media" station, MSNBC. But somehow, Rand Paul's son, William Hilton Paul, age 22, escaped the immediate scrutiny that Democrats seem to face after he was charged with his second legal infraction involving alcohol. Just yesterday, the news was released about this latest run-in with the law.

A Kentucky TV station reports:

According to the citation, police say William Hilton Paul, 22, was observed sitting in the driver's seat of a vehicle that had collided with a parked car along Woodland Avenue Sunday afternoon. Police say Paul smelled of alcohol and had "bloodshot, watery eyes." According to the citation, he was behaving in a "belligerent" manner" and had slurred speech.

William even refused to take a blood test, and somehow, he was only given a citation and was not arrested.

His own parenting aside, the absence of fathers is a problem.

But will he go into the reasons why so many fathers in that community are incarcerated or dead? I doubt it.

The systematic outsourcing and offshoring of all of our good manufacturing and industrial jobs is a key element into why things are the way they are. It used to be that you could get a job right out of high school working in a factory and be there for life, earn a good salary and have a decent retirement. That all ended with the advent of Reaganism.

The people hit hardest by the outsourcing in manufacturing were the minorities in the cities. That's why you see such plight in cities such as Memphis and Detroit and Baltimore and so on and so forth. There's nowhere for these people to work, there's no way to have a career.

And now the current President is looking to exacerbate the problem by pushing this horrible TPP.

The American dream is dead. As George Carlin said "they call it the American dream because you have to be asleep to believe it"

All too true.

The greedy one percent have trashed the nation. The middle class is in cardiac arrest with one foot in the grave. The 50% unemployment of African-Americans in Baltimore without any hope of a better future isn't just a problem, it is disaster. No, I don't excuse the violence and destruction of property, but it is symptomatic of the direness of the situation. A few will escape, but the vast majority are trapped in a downward spiral. The only solution is redistribution of the wealth that the oligarchy have stolen from the working class by outsourcing their jobs leaving them in a hopeless situation. The Republican solution is to cut every safety net program, repeal the ACA, slash Social Security and Medicare while awarding the one percent with generous tax reductions.

Family values are for democratic voters. The repubs/tp'ers do not need them. $carah PayMe's daughter was paid $300,00 + to preach abstinence, while living with a guy she called her "trial husband" She has had more than one illigitimate child. What this country needs is to build REHAB faciities, instead of prisons. Give job training to replace college that they cannot afford, or have no interest in. Most working class kids want jobs that require a skill that PAYS a living wage. Plumbers, electricians, welders, auto mechanics. Build. or even take over empty buildings, to organize tech. schools to teach these skills. I realize that the people (Cheney) who have $$$$ invested in private prisons will not take to this idea. Not to worry, they would soon figure out a way to make it profitable for themselves. Sounds like Paul's son has alcoholic tendencies. I wonder where that came from - daddy and grandpa? Alcoholism is an inheritred disease, as I learned from personal experience.

But the "lack of fathers" bit hits hard because there are so many black boys living without a father. I may get flak for saying this but I believe many black households would benefit greatly from having both parents in the home and a strong male figure to guide these boys into adulthood.

your kid gets busted for driving under the influence and gets a ride home and no citation.
Now since I am a nobody and I get busted doing the same thing what do you think would happen to me Rand---please tell the entire planet what would happen---let me give you and your son a clue..................

Even if I knew what I did was wrong, and manned up to the situation:

I would be in jail, for not taking a field sobriety test, which your "boy" did not take, your such a great role model
I would loose my license---so that I couldn't go to work---then I would loose my house, etcetera, and fall further into the abyss
I would be paying a fine to help subsidize the police department in there new description of debt collectors to the, city, county, region and state
And if I failed in paying this debt, I world get a warrant out for my arrest and rack up more costs unto the city, country m, state, and region and myself.
Then you forget to mention in your rant, that just maybe the trade policies in this country is creating this imbalance, and creating poverty and no jobs.

You really should just resign, since you have no clue on what a moral code is about---look at your son---you are failure, he got special treatment based on god damn name association.

Orrin Hatch's son lobbies for big pharma, so Daddy helps get laws passed favorable to them. Trickle down means a WHOLE different thing to these guys. Bribes = trickle down.
