There must be more to life than having everything.

He has been an inspiration for my kindergarten art students for years!

Maurice Sendaks Wild Things One of Obamas Favorite Childrens Books
http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2012/05/maurice-sendaks-wild-things-one-of-obamas-favorite-childrens-books/
and:
I was born in 1986, and Where the Wild Things Are was a favorite book of my three siblings and I growing up (along with The Hungry Caterpillar, Goodnight Moon, and Pat the Bunny.) In elementary school, we even did a short play version of the book, so it must have been familiar to a lot of my peers, too. If there really was a lull in the books popularity in the 80s, I hope the recent film adaptation has caused a revival and that todays kids arent deprived of a wonderful book. That is, if todays kids read at all. RIP, Maurice Sendak.

(30,739 posts)2. There are other books by Sendak, or
illustrated by him that our family has loved. Chicken Soup with Rice is fun. So is In the Night Kitchen, which prudes everywhere hate, because of the anatomically correct naked little boy. We also love Jarrell's The Animal Family, which Sendak illustrated.
I don't know if all of these are in print any more, but they are worth looking for.
RIP, Mr. Sendak.
