LINCOLN State lawmakers, before delaying a vote on his confirmation Wednesday, directed thorny questions at the Nebraska State Patrols new commander regarding his attitudes toward women officers.
Interim Col. Brad Rice also was asked about a trooper trainee who resigned from a police department following accusations of excessive force.
Several members of the Government, Military and Veterans Affairs Committee were ready to recommend Rices confirmation to the full Legislature after a hearing that extended well past an hour. But Sens. Joni Craighead of Omaha and Matt Hansen of Lincoln said they wanted more time to review Rices testimony before voting.
A vote will be taken yet this week, said Sen. John Murante of Gretna, the committee chairman.
