In the small country school where I spent my first 7 years of schooling, I expect every kid in that school had access to guns at home. Every boy also carried a pocket knife. Somehow, we survived; the biggest threat of bodily harm came from having to expose parts of your anatomy in the outhouse at 35 below.

Vermont also has one of the lowest gun crime rates in the country. not just tiny numbers, but tiny per capita numbers.

Actually, Bernie was elected because he benefited from NRA opposition to one term republican rep, Peter Smith who supported gun control. Not that the NRA supported Bernie, and he currently has a "F" rating from them, but it's fair to say that Bernie himself is "soft" on gun control.
