A very large portion of the public (outside DU) and many comedians are laughing at Bernie ' s hair do. He has to get past that unless he wants to the Donald Trump of the left.

(11,785 posts)Donald Trump's hair is laughable because it's a combover that's an absurd shade of orange. Bernie's is merely fine hair that hasn't been laquered or greased into submission. I don't see anything to "get past" here.

(41,131 posts)Before the Olympics on some late night show, in between his bizarre humor, interesting ancestry which he likes to go on about, Mayor Boris kept returning the great vehicles! he got to ride around in NY, thanks to Mayor Bloomberg, on and on. He was really impressed. I wondered if he'd been brought up in some remote, rural part of Lithuania or Romania maybe. Lol.
When Letterman asked him if he cut his own hair (from lack of $) Boris just laughed and blushed forever, great one.

(14,524 posts)"Serious people" underestimate exactly the wrong thing. You think that "many" American voters think like the clowns we have in office right now. How'd that brand of thinking work out for Dems in 2014?
You, unlike me, vastly underestimate the intelligence of the majority of American voters. Political parties don't lose elections "because of stupid voters," they lose them because they have done a lousy job of governing FOR THE PEOPLE when they won and even worse job at motivating voters to show up and vote for their candidates.
THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR LOSING ANY ELECTION IS ALWAYS ON THE PARTY AND THE CANDIDATES THEY PUT UP. ALWAYS. ALWAYS. ALWAYS.

(8,090 posts)The founder of my former company -- PhD physicist who fostered employee-ownership and entrepreneurship -- was known for wearing white socks with black shoes and carrying his lunch to work in a brown paper bag. Annual revenue when he retired was nearly $7 billion. It was a great place to work.
I haven't watched Hillary's commercial, but will get around to it eventually. She and Bill have been in my life since the early nineties and quite frankly, I'm sick of them both and their "New Democrat" ways.
I just saw a The Hill piece suggesting the 2016 presidential election could come with a $5 billion price tag. That is OBSCENE. All the more reason I want Bernie with his wild hair and bad suits to beat the current front-runner. I'm fucking sick of slick.

Bernie doesn't give one fuck about what people think about his hair, and once all the puerile idiots out there realize that, maybe they'll actually pay some attention.

Seriously, I don't think this is an issue. Donald Trump is vain and his hair is bad because he tries to "fix it and style it" etc. Bernie's is natural.
Everyone makes fun of candidates and they make fun of the candidate who will win.

(39,961 posts)is that he doesn't give a shit about his hair, what corporations think of him, and generally does his best to do the right thing for the American People.
That is also his greatest asset. I'm tired of hearing how he can't win - he is clear on policy, doesn't obfuscate, and does what he thinks is right.
If you want to be a leader, there are two paths to choose: Lie your ass off pretending no one notices or tell the damn truth.
Bernie Sanders is the latter.

(7,358 posts)So typical to jump on someone's appearance in this narcissistic country called the U.S.A. I suggest people listen to what he has to say. No doubt he'd be criticized for getting $200 hair cuts. Wouldn't it be refreshing to live in a country that didn't care about cosmetics? Some other world I suppose.

(22,308 posts)Let the (R)s put up someone with bulletproof hair against him. Perry or Walker will look like a Ken doll.
Seniors will be more accepting of Bernie because he looks like someone they can relate to.
Young voters already love the guy and those in the middle are so desperate for his economic message that the hair won't matter.
Trump is a joke because Trump is a joke. His hair is an easy target but even if he had perfect hair he would still be a walking talking (endlessly) punchline.

(40,416 posts)Then there's high style like this on daytime TV, The Talk (which should more accurately labelled "The Blab" .
Yet this finds its way into households across the nation.
And of course, then there's the epitome of style, Donald Trump, another so-called candidate.
Of course, the former is portrayed as mainstream -- no accounting for Trump -- but somehow Bernie is somehow aberrant?
Ridiculous!
