(2,969 posts)No one, not even a Texas Republican, is that precisely stupid - being white supremacist in Spanish.
Probably an intra-party dirty trick.

(60,010 posts)I think I would love to know her in person.
Pls. tell her she is popular on DU.
Gothmog
(145,176 posts)She makes me feel conservative at times and you do not want to get on her bad side. At the state convention, she nominated me to be on the rules committee for the party convention and that was 8 hours of my life I will never get back.

True Blue Door
(2,969 posts)There are probably a number of places in Texas where open white supremacism is politically advantageous.

(60,010 posts)My next door neighbor....widow....in her early 80's now.
very much the "old Southern" type,, comes from generations of her people in this area, her husband was a local banker.
She is a Democrat, goes to the Methodist church, we get along fine, if not on too deep topics. Her son is a well known progressive lawyer.
Any yet....without batting an eyelash, she casually referred to a neighbor who is around 45, ,successful businessman, very kind guy,
and black..she tells me he is...... "a very nice boy".

(8,028 posts)...that he's doing at your link. If he's sincere about his intent not being racist, he should pull the signs and redo his campaign slogan.
The ball is in his court. Somehow I doubt that he'll fix it...

One good thing about blunt racists--there's no "wondering" or dog whistling happening. They come right out and say it!
You can at least see them coming from a good distance...

(145,176 posts)Either the candidate is not being honest or that candidate is a truly stupid person. Given that this is a Texas race, either could be true
TexasTowelie
(112,162 posts)my take on the sign is that it is similar to the Keep Austin Weird signs. Since both Austin and San Antonio are expanding in the direction of Blanco it can easily be interpreted as retaining the small town atmosphere and not encourage development. I also know somebody that teaches at Blanco H.S.
ag_dude
(562 posts)I've lived between Blanco and Dripping Springs before and that catch phrase is parodied quite often around the area.
I wouldn't defend him but I'd also say people thinking there's no possible way it's not about race are exaggerating a bit.

(145,176 posts)It is tough living in Texas. I will be seeing Mr. Juanita Jean Wednesday night at a meeting

(18,791 posts)Someone should make up some stickers to add to the sign:
Keep Blanco White
and see how that goes over.
HassleCat
(6,409 posts)"Keep Blanco Loco!"
TNNurse
(6,926 posts)the candidate is a Republican. So if he posts this as a Republican we can surmise that the local party at least is OK with it. So that implies, they are all racists. Why don't they just put "Vote for me, I'm white". That is what the sign says.
