Voter Turnout is KEY --the NC Amendment Results

We had record primary turnout in NC today, but that record was only 34.37% of eligible voters. That's sad, very sad. The turnout when Obama took NC in 2008 was 70% and NC was among the states with the highest voter turnout in the country.

These counties voted AGAINST the Amendment: Orange 78.9%, Durham 69.8%, Wake 56.8%, Mecklenburg 54%,Chatham 53.9%, Buncombe 51.5%, and Watauga 50.8%

With a larger turnout, it's just possible this thing could have been defeated.

Amendment was put on a PRIMARY ballot--when voter turnout is expected to be low. The people behind this Amendment definitely

2. I'm sorry, that's incorrect.

Turnout was already highest in Democratic areas, so there was less "low hanging fruit" for us to harvest with greater turnout. If turnout were boosted to 50%, we would have to win those additional voters over by three to one in order to be victorious.

This wasn't anywhere near close enough to be impacted by improved turnout.

That too is incorrect. Believe it or not, we have Democrats to thank for the the scheduling. The House action to put the issue on the ballot in the first place only garnered the required D votes because of the shift to May. Nothing would have made Republicans happier than to put it on the Nov ballot.

3. No measure denying civil rights to people should ever be on any ballot.

That's the real problem with this whole thing. We have a similar bill up for a vote in November in Minnesota. A record turnout of Democratic voters is the only way it can be defeated.
