If proponents of the Jade Helm 15 conspiracy theory hoped to generate more attention for their bizarre cause, theyve succeeded its become a national story. But as was obvious on The Daily Show last night, the attention isnt exactly positive for the fringe activists and their fringe paranoia.
As we discussed last week, right-wing conspiracy theorists fear the Obama administration is planning some kind of invasion of Southwestern states, and as the Houston Chronicle noted, the activists also believe Walmart is in on it.
Its tough to understand as a coherent thought, but those who fear Obama-imposed martial law apparently suspect Walmart stores in Texas will be used to detain prisoners and/or serve as staging areas. Secret underground tunnels are also somehow expected to be involved.

(20,176 posts)The worst, craziest potheads I ever knew are all Republicans. Most of them are professional political workers too; let's just say the future of the GOP may be very bizarre.

(20,176 posts)One of my former pothead GOPer roommates in DC believes that the fictional novels of Malachi Martin about Satan's subversion and interloping in the Papacy and Roman Catholic Church are factual.
Another believes that Jerry Garcia is the model that all Libertarians and Republicans should strive for and that the Dead are secretly both Objectivist and Conservative.

I've heard all about this exercise of late but nobody has explained why it is happening. This is the first time, in my life, that I have ever heard of the military conducting an exercise that sends soldiers, in civilian clothes, to spy on us or the test whether or not troops disguised as civilian can infiltrate a community unnoticed.
I don't believe an invasion is being planned or any of the other RW conspiracy theories, I just want someone to tell me why?

(735 posts)had reached the apex of stupid, they double down!
Every year military and national guard have summer exercises, last year my boyfriends unit were practicing how to deal with chemical attacks. They don't call central casting for people to portray civilians, they pick who plays the part from their unit. He and I were laughing our asses off on this newest display of idiocy by the right!!
