I cannot believe it!

Our local Oklahoma City NBC affiliate, KFOR, is doing a new piece on the OK State Legislature. The topic - why do they pass so many blatantly unconstitutional laws? Why the Attorney General's office (and paid outside attorneys) defend the laws in court when they are pretty much likely to lose in court. Cost to Oklahoma tax payers?

My reaction - It is about time people started to talk about this issue!

glad to see some of our more reasonable repubs starting to push back on some of these proposals in our legislature.

They know the laws could not pass. But if they make it outrageous enough, it will get into the news, along with their name.

When they passed the federal no-knock warrant law, a Democrat proposed the following amendment be added to the law.

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

A litany of Republicans took to the House floor to laugh at this amendment. They said there would be no point to passing the law with this amendment attached since it would completely invalidate the law.

Eventually a Republican who was not a brain dead moron discovered what was going on and took the floor to urge his fellow Republicans to stop saying the amendment would invalidate the law since the proposed amendment is a verbatim copy of the 4th Amendment to the Constitution!

So they passed that law knowing it was unconstitutional and that the Supreme Court would save them from themselves. Except the Court did no such thing. Despite pretty much unanimous agreement from everyone in Congress that the law was unconstitutional, the Supremes ruled otherwise. And we've had no-knock warrants ever since.

this trend to the voters. Thus we end up with unconstitutional legislation.

Yes, it would appear that you finally noticed something rather important. Will you be doing any follow-up, or is simply noticing this colossal waste of time and money enough for you? Will the perpetrators pay any kind of price for their wasteful antics? Anyone going to lose their office? Or is it time once again to shrug, mutter "whaddyagunnado" and move on?
