Thursday morning the so-called Fick's brewery was partially destroyed by fire. The building was unused, except the front portion, which was occupied by the family of Mr. P. Undried. There was no insurance on the building.

At the fire last week, the firemen had to dig holes in the marshes in order to get water.

The recent fire at Fick's brewery clearly showed that another cistern is needed in the Third Ward. This ward contains double the territory of any other ward, yet is only supplied with one cistern, when it needs at least two.

The engineers of the fire steamers ought to be supplied with screens to be placed about the suction of their engines. At the last fire the pumps became filled with small fish and the strange sight was presented of an attempt to extinguish a fire with a few streams of small fish and some water.

Apropos of the new style of putting out a fire with streams of fish, would it not be a good
idea for the city to purchase an immense sieve-like frying pan which could be placed over
the fire. The water might trickle through the pan unto the fire and the fish would be fried.
With water works, such apparatus could not be used, therefore let's not have any water works.
