Republican New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie spent $85,000 in taxpayer cash on entertainment in luxury boxes at sports arenas between 2010 and 2012 — funds the state GOP later reimbursed, the Associated Press reported.

“The money came from an account, worth $95,000 a year, that Christie can use to pay for official entertainment or other expenses associated with his job,” according to the report, based on documents the AP obtained via the Garden State’s open records law.

The report described the expenses as permitted under state law. It also said the response to the open-records request didn’t specify which events Christie, a potential presidential contender, personally hosted and who else attended them.

Christie, who visited New Hampshire this week as a poll of his own state’s voters showed believe he can capture the 2016 GOP nomination, said it was his idea to have the party take over the costs.
