(6,161 posts)While FDR definitely WAS Progressive for his time, I would easily say Pres. O is MORE Progressive than FDR. No such divisiveness coming from Obama.

(9,214 posts)It's called being open minded. Don't let it bother you, that's a liberal thing, some people have a hard time with it.

And then there's this:
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ku_Klux_Klan#section_3
Much of the modern Klan's iconography, including the standardized white costume and the lighted cross, are derived from the film. Its imagery was based on Dixon's romanticized concept of old England and Scotland, as portrayed in the novels and poetry of Sir Walter Scott. The film's influence and popularity were enhanced by a widely reported endorsement by historian and U.S. President Woodrow Wilson.
The Birth of a Nation included extensive quotations from Woodrow Wilson's History of the American People, as if to give it a stronger basis. After seeing the film in a special White House screening, Wilson allegedly said, "It is like writing history with lightning, and my only regret is that it is all so terribly true." Wilson's remarks immediately became controversial. Wilson tried to remain aloof, but finally, on April 30, he issued a non-denial denial. Wilson's aide, Joseph Tumulty said, "the President was entirely unaware of the nature of the play before it was presented and at no time has expressed his approbation of it."

(1,033 posts)He's the most progressive president we've had in decades and he's moving this country forward at a rate I haven't seen in my lifetime. I'm so proud to have him as our president, and I look forward to voting for him again in November.

(9,214 posts)liberal than President Obama ever will be.
But I applaud this and many of his more recent moves. He's probably going to make me vote for him.

(11,700 posts)So I will give him creds for that. A very ballsy move in an election year.
I'm still angry with him over quite a few other issues though.

(37,748 posts)FDR, Wilson, Taft... in that order.
(and before I get slapped with a bumper sticker, I'm taking each one's *entire* presidency, en-toto into account-- both foreign and domestic policy, rather than merely one or two dramatic issues in order to trivialize the rest of the their terms...)

(6,238 posts)then yes he is probably the most progressive on that issue. However, when you factor into account that he is to the right of several past Republican presidents on economic issues, the fact that the cornerstone of his Healthcare reform bill was thought up by the Heritage Foundation, his signing of the Patriot Act extensions, his use of drone assassinations, well it seems like he a center-right president who is progressive on one issue.
