ScottWalker's Wisconsin #1 in Destroying the Middle Class

Living next to Minnesota which has millions in its budget surplus makes it worse!!

Walker's Wisconsin number One in Destroying the Middle Class.

I ran across this little shocker:

I didn't expect to see Wisconsin in the list:

1. Wisconsin: -5.7%

The clear winner (or loser) in the race to the bottom has been Wisconsin, losing 5.7% of its middle class households since 2000. Average median income has dropped by roughly $9,000 annually, and costs of living have gone up as well. There have also been many political battles that have not worked in the middle class’s favor. Governor Scott Walker gutted many of the state’s unions — which has a big effect on the middle class — and all signs seem to indicate that he will aim to implement similar policies. Like Ohio, Wisconsin’s makeup was particularly vulnerable to a recession, and the proof is in the numbers.

My comment was directed at the comment no paper in WI would run the story.

We're a reddish purple state...but we still have some progressive media, including newspapers.

Lives in North Western part of the State. Things are going from bad to worse, because of a Heart Attack a few years ago and with heart disease,he has to make do on SSDI. His subsidized housing allowance has been slashed and that means a huge rent increase. So if our poor have it better than other Nations,I got a bone to pick with that person who said that. Just paid his rent increase so the guy had a little bit of walking around money in his pocket. This is not the Wisconsin I grew up in and the State that had the greatest education system.

9. Rep. Berceau is spot on.....

Repubs really did not run on anything near the issues. And Walker and REpubs are talking fear politics now also. Drug testing fore welfare and food stamps for instance is one of the issues they talk about .

I am glad you are able to help your brother.

......But state Rep. Berceau thinks the problem goes much deeper.

“I’m hearing the usual from both my colleagues and the public, ‘Oh, Democrats didn’t message.’ And I’m thinking there’s something more fundamental we’ve got to start looking at,” she says. “If you look at our messaging versus theirs, they didn’t even campaign on any of their issues. For instance, they got a lot of money from the voucher school industry and they didn’t campaign on the issue of voucher schools because they knew it wasn’t a winner with the public. We campaigned on actual policy issues, like we will raise the minimum wage. Republicans not only don’t want to raise the minimum wage but don’t believe in it.”

She thinks that Republican successes stem from their ability to capitalize on fear.

“For as long as I’ve been here, they’ve campaigned on two things: Your taxes are too high, and there are all those welfare cheaters out there,” she said. “Republicans know the fear button works. And I’m trying to figure out what are those triggers for us.”....

will be the go to play book for the Republican run for the White House model. Couple of further notes here, one is the fear model will work every day if it is not challenged by the Media and we know the Wisconsin Media is in the GOP pocket. Two is all the money that poured in from outside the state during the last ten days of the campaign season. With the millions dumped in by the Koch Brothers Johnny Menard another Billionaire from Milwaukee through dummy front companies or fake action groups. Hopefully the residents of Wisconsin can come to their senses and dump these Republicans and get back to a progressive form of people caring Government.

Minnesota had to overcome a similar Governmental disaster with one step up,and that was we still had our Unions to help us return to sanity. Now the Wisconsinites will have a tougher road to travel to right the ship.

I've actually been looking for comparisons like this between the two states since I saw an article about that republican dude... I can't remember his name, where he said that MN-WI would be a litmus test supporting conservative economic policies. It's too bad this report isn't more granular. The last I heard we have a 1.9B surplus, which I think Dayton wants to spend mostly on much needed infrastructure repair and improvements. I feel for you guys. I still despise the Badgers and the Packers, but I always will. Here is an interesting read.
