In an outdoor mall at a coastal tourist trap, I was sporting T-shirt, shorts, flips, and my belly. Coming toward me was a couple with the cookie cutter "perfect" bodies. Revulsion passed over their faces at the sight of me.

Lots of snorting righteous indignation about sizism and fat shaming when the topics come up, then "fat" constantly used as a synonym for stupid or ineffective and useless whenever RW types, especially white ones who don't live in the central districts of major cities, are described or when a caricature for feckless inutility is needed.

of becoming what they hate. I remember back in the late 70's a poll asked college graduates what they most feared:
nuclear war
being unsuccessful with their career/life
death by a horrible disease
becoming fat
You only get one guess which one won.
The very saddest part of this is that the discrimination is rampant in the medical community.

I think it is part of the infantilizing of women. Beauty (whether you mean inner or outer) is not something to be sold and traded in cheap Hallmark sentiments and is no substitute for succeeding in life based on determination, hard work and guts.

people differ in frame size and muscle mass, even given the same height.

If by fat do you mean could you be leaner? Yes.

If by fat do you mean are you unhealthy from an athletic point of view? Probably.

If by fat do you mean are you unhealthy from a medical point of view? Doubtful.

Marketing that encourages people to keep indulging and "treating" oneself and ignore the economic and health consequences of endless consumption. "It's not your fault...just keep eating...buying...then "shame on you", buy this new weight loss cure...failure at weight loss? It's not your fault...

That's what I hate.

It's the reason that people who starve down to an ideal weight very rarely are able to maintain it for more than a couple of years, if that long.

The only marketing to fat people should be for things to keep them healthy at whatever weight they happen to be, and things to help them appear the most attractive they can be.

The last thing any fat person needs is some starveling starlet in her 20s touting the latest Hollywood deprivation diet fad. It's worse than the shaming and blaming, false hope being one of the most destructive things out there.

for their weight! I once got the last seat from a flight from Houston to Miami and this good looking girl, a bit overweight sat next to me me. You know what, she was in the middle seat and did not even move a bit in my space. I admired her when she started her snacks, she offered both of us, of course I declined. Me, I was pissed that I missed my connection in Houston, have no idea what the other person said to her.

Is this a joke to test us?

37. Almost everyone looks down on a perceived lack of exhibited discipline
Wed May 13, 2015, 01:16 AM
May 2015

What varies is the manner in which it is applied:

- Overweight people are perceived to lack discipline with food and exercise.

Alcoholics, drug addicts, the poor, the homeless, people with poor credit, people with poor hygiene, etc garner the same attention from people because they are perceived as lacking discipline.

We were actually taught this in the military, you single out the lack of discipline and publicly shame it so it is not repeated to the detriment of the entire group.

I almost view it as a form of subconscious peer pressure, at the root people don't want to "hate" them, people are wired to want them to NOT be that way. I believe more times than not the reaction is pity, not hate, but both can come across as disgust.

that has something to do with one member of the group/tribe eating more than their share of the tribe's finite resources putting others at risk. Just an idea.
