Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI started a new job and in july will beable to cover my wife and I Health, Vision and Dental for $66
a month.
I want her to drop her insurance right now. We are paying $100.00 a month for her health insurance right now and it is crap. She got the insurance through one of the staffing agencies she is with. She pays $100.00 just for health care and she has gone to the doctor twice and had blood work done. The total bill is $580 dollars. This is stuff the insurance company is suppose to be covering. My step-mother is a paralegal and was on a conference call with my wife and her insurance company and she is reading the coverage policy word for word to the supervisor who is dancing around the issue.
They claim that they can deny any claim at anytime.
I told my wife just drop them now because we shouldn't pay for something that isn't working.
She is out of her depression pills. We can't pay for her to see the doctor now until she finds a job.
PA unemployment denied her claim because they are only looking at the work she did in Washington country. They have denied her appeal. My wife is getting worse with her depression. I am at my wits end and I'm frustrated with everything!
FUCK THIS COUNTRY!!!!
We are not a great place we are on a race down hill quickly.
Thank you for letting me vent.

(68,644 posts)Be sure that you're covered for catastrophic medical events.
My ObamaCare covered over a million dollars in costs last year and this year, I'm out the deductibles and the max out of pocket already for this year, but if I didn't have coverage I'd in deep doo, or on public assistance.
Hope the job is rewarding in every way!

(55,027 posts)discontinuing meds is not a good idea and I expect her doctor actually knows that. TALK to the Dr.
or try a local mental health agency that can refer you to somebody on a sliding scale.

I have not talk to her doctor. She told the office she can't come because of the insurance issue. They didn't talk to her about making payments or anything. They just said okay.
I have been trying to find someone.

(55,027 posts)you know, the person who can call in or write a refill prescription to tide you over until you get the other bullshit straightened out.
TALK TO THE PERSON WHO CAN HELP YOU NOW. worry about the other crap later.

(61,748 posts)Kali is right. Call your wife's doctor's office. Tell the receptionist that you are between coverage but have a new job and your wife will be covered beginning in July. You may get bounced around to various people so be patient. Tell them that you want to work out a payment plan, and your wife immediately needs a refill on meds that will cause severe withdrawal effects if she stops abruptly

(62,325 posts)Obviously I was wrong, but I thought you had stated that. Just asked because since you are here, there are probably options under the new HC bill if your income is low enough at this point.

(6,476 posts)How long will you have to wait for it to kick in? Try contacting the company that manufactures her antidepressant and fill out their forms for help. They have programs for those who can't afford their meds. It's worth a try.

(3,121 posts)The worse thing that happen to her so far is the fact that she is not getting/finding a job. That last set of interviews really upset her. She had a second interview she sent each interview a e-mail thank you and the one interview e-mailed her back asking when would be the best time for the 3rd interview would be. She got her hopes up too high. But why would a person ask that question than tell the staffing agency no she isn't the right fit.

(6,476 posts)It's hard to keep up your spirits and sense of self worth when everything seems to be going south. Try writing to the company that produces her antidepressant they might help..they helped me when I needed it. Look online.
Good luck!
PS..I'm sorry your wife didn't land the job she was so hopeful about. What kind of work does she do? I noticed that landing a new position got harder in my mid 50's. It sounds like she's going through an agency, does it offer temp jobs? Sometimes that's a foot in the door and you can build skills. Everything is more difficult these days.
Again, good luck and keep talking!

(3,121 posts)She will have her notary soon. It seems most companies in the Washington area are going through staffing agencies. A lot are doing "temporary indefinite" works so they don't have to deal with health care and paid vacations. They are also using the staffing companies to weed out undesirable candidate.

(6,476 posts)If she's changing jobs she needs to get experience in the type of work she wants. Taking indefinite assignments is one way (almost the only way anymore) to do that. By Washington area do you mean DC or the state? DC would be a good place to take the federal civil service test and get on the list. To get a good chance of getting called to interview you need to be in the top 3 to 5%, but you can retake the test later. You can do the same thing with the state civil service tests.
There should be a listing of civil service jobs and tests online that she can check. Has she updated her computer skills and typing/data entry skills...start at the bottom and get your foot in the door then work up. The first step is the hardest. She can probably find skills training as well. It's just a thought.
If her doctor won't write a new script then you need to get her to the doctor somehow. This is really important if she is seriously affected by depression. You know her best and can judge how you think she might do without her meds. The doctor can be made aware of your financial situation and may be able to give you free meds from the salespeople that frequent them. I've done that as well. (Went through a tough spell waiting on disability and not being able to work.)
Just some thoughts..

Hang in there! I found a plan outside of coverage that my local pharmacy offered and it pays for 80% of my medication. Try all the local pharmacies even if they are in a grocery store. You might be surprised.
