And what are some ways they accomplish this?
Religion. Blind stinking faith in a hereafter where the streets are paved in gold and mansions await those who roll over and comply without thinking critically and realizing that they are being played...is a start.
"Be good or Santa won't bring you presents", shouldn't work on anyone older than 8 at most, but fortunately for those in control, this same faith based system of promised rewards in exchange for blind compliance and suspension of rational thought.
BOOM! There's 40% of the electorate locked up for the GOP who co-opted god for their cause.
I'm embarrassed for us all. Before you condemn me for bashing religion, think this one out if it's not too late. The GOP uses god (heaven and hell) to sucker people into voting for them. It's a tale as old as time, but hey it works.
As far as religious lefties are concerned, I'm not criticizing you tonight. I don't understand them enough to say anything. It's the same way I feel about women, blacks, or gays who vote republican, it just confuses the shit out of me.
Goodnight, good luck, and I'll wake in the morning to see this thread locked. I only hope I get a few thumbs up before the lock.
Peace.

(118,642 posts)that can be wedged. In my experience liberals of any kind can be turned into a mob at the hands of a talented sociopath. All they need are grievances and aspirations in their pawns and they can control the pawns thinking. If they don't find grievances and aspirations then they create them. Anyone can be manipulated. Anyone.

I agree with your premise that critical thinking skills are lacking. Lashing out at religious people in general is not a hallmark of critical thinking.
