(MILD SPOILER ALERT) Everything was great about David Letterman's last show... but I think...

...Jimmy Kimmel got more choked up last night on his show talking about Letterman than Dave did tonight saying farewell!

I loved Dave's heartfelt thank yous to his staff, his family and his viewers, but I dunno... I was ready to tear up and get choked up along with him and it didn't happen. After he emotionally struggled to get through his first show after his heart surgery, and his legendary first show after 9/11, I thought we were going to see more of a Carson-esque goodbye. Instead, he delivered a dignified, composed and utterly sincere farewell, without the tears or lump-in-the-throat moment some - myself included - either expected or hoped for, or both. The more I think about it, I think Dave re-set the bar and the standard for show biz goodbyes. He went out on a high note, left 'em wanting more, and signed off with both sincerity and dignity without being maudlin.

Larry "Bud" Melman would be proud!

But he obviously chose not to. That's the classy kind of guy he is.

I wasn't expecting to, but I got kinda choked up, more than Dave did. And those were some classic moments, loved every minute of it.

That was hilarious right from the start. I knew it would be great from that opening.

I thought his whole monologue was excellent last night. He made jokes like that one, self-deprecating ones and did some topical stuff too. And ya.... the "long national nightmare" opening was a home run. It set the tone for the rest of the show.
