Oprah Winfrey wasted no time in canceling an appearance by the Duggar family on her former talk show when she received an anonymous email pointing to allegations of Josh Duggars molesting underage girls, some of who included his sisters.
According to a report from TMZ, the email was received by a Harpo staffer on the morning of December 7, 2006. In addition to revealing Josh Duggars past, the email also alleged that his parents, Jim Bob and Michelle, covered up their sons past crimes.

The day the email was received, the Duggars were already in Chicago preparing for their taping on the show later that day. By 1:17 pm, an Arkansas State police officer, alerted by the tip from Oprahs staff, called Joshs mom Michelle and told her to bring her son back home immediately for an interview.
By that time, the taping of the Duggars appearance on Oprahs show had already been canceled.

So, TLC went through with this farce of a family even though the allegations were out there before the show started?? Glad that they yanked the show now, but it shouldn't have been on the air at all before all of this.

(40,416 posts)Do you mean the person who made the career of Dr. Phil who went into jury consulting after he realized that he was the worst marriage counselor on the planet. So what has that utter kook Oprah have him doing? That's right, marriage counseling. Way to go, Oprah.
Then there's John of God, in Brazil, who does scam psychic surgery along with Jesus healing, which never works, BTW. Yup! Oprah supports him, too.
And don't get me started about Jenny McCarthy's anti-vaccination kookery. Yup! Oprah loves her, too.
And then there's Oprah's favorite physician, Dr. Oz, who promotes abject quackery on his program while holding a surgical professorship at the prestigious Columbia University.
And then there's John Edward who claims to talk to the dead, also endorsed by loony, loony Oprah.
Oprah is utterly evil!

(81,873 posts)I mean knew for a fact. Not just an anonymous email.
Oprahs show did the right thing. I bet most would just delete it as conspiracies.

(7,429 posts)If she got it anonymously and acted on it, clearly TLC would have gotten something similar when it came time to start an entire Television Show about this family.
All she was doing was a feature on them on her show and she did the right thing in 2006!

(81,873 posts)It was sent to a generic mailbox. We don't know if a similar message was sent to TLC, if it was viewed/read, and if anyone with decision making authority knew about it.
A lot of those generic mailboxes are not monitored.

(14,923 posts)When the state trooper ran into trouble, someone from the Arkansas State Police alerted the Child Abuse Hotline about the Duggar situation that had been sitting inactive. Thats when the Crimes Against Children Division and Springdale Police Department got involved. By then the three-year statute of limitations had passed and it would not have been possible to pursue prosecution of Josh if the allegations warranted, so the investigation was discontinued. A technicality prevented any further action, a source familiar with the case told In Touch. Thats been the biggest regret in all of this. (The statute of limitations has since been lengthened.)

Hmm, the investigating State Trooper was convicted of 'child pornography'..? He allowed this case to sit inactive allowing the three-year-statute-of-limitations to lapse?.......I think there's a lot more to this story......

(111,352 posts)so I'm not a bit surprised about this.
I've been disgusted with TLC for years, it's degenerated into a freak show and its prime freaks were a sanctimonious family whose only claim to fame was that Mom had a clown car vagina and didn't mind being bred every year of her life.
Word has it that the Duggar girls who were assaulted have had "counseling." I just hope it wasn't the Christian variety that blames everything female as sinks of iniquity put on earth to trap young Christian men into sin.
That they're finally getting their show yanked is a good thing. Maybe TLC will run something educational for a change.

(81,500 posts)held up as some sort of wunnnnnnnnderful all-American role model family - when the dad suffers from can't-keep-his-pants-zipped syndrome maybe with challenged-manhood issues, or overcompensating for something - in which he's either so damned self-involved or insecure that he feels the need to sire whole townsfull of kids, and mom is nothing but a human hatchery.
What kind of example is that? Is that single-family overpopulation problem something we're supposed to admire? Or emulate? What am I not getting here.
But this, on top of that - with that unapologetic repeat molester CRIMINAL (sorry, but that's what he is. A CRIMINAL) - and letting them get away with it and pass themselves off as this "saintly" "Godly" "wholesome" "family" - makes me wanna !!!!

I only wish this would give one of those kids - especially one of the girls - the nerve to jump ship and go public.

(13,877 posts)"a family friend wrote down the accusations in a letter that was then placed in a book in the Duggars home. Sometime during 2006, the Duggars loaned the book to another person and the letter was discovered."
How bizarre is that? How would anyone who takes such pains to write this garbage down, a family friend?, put it in a book in the home, in the first place...and the Duggars just happened to loan that same book to "another person" who then alerted LE.
Doesn't pass my smell test. It would seem more appropriate if one of the girls wrote down the story, slipped it into a book and loaned it to someone who would be able to help. Kind of like a message in a bottle/book,
