Anybody watching the movie Midway on AMC?

What helped the US to come back from the attack on Pearl Harbor was our might industrial capability. The US seems to be a shell of what it once was with the refusal of the Republican Party to invest in our infrastructure and the continual decline of our industrial capability.

1. The response to Pearl harbor was to buff up and attack the enemy back.

The response to 9/11 was to buff up and attack someone totally unrelated to the enemy.

Yep. Something wrong here.

Due to bad weather, none of our aircraft carriers were yet in port like they were supposed to be.

Great movie; I have it on DVD.

6. I never thought Midway was a great movie. Tora Tora Tora on the other hand is incredible.

Midway always struck me as a cheap assembly of stock footage.

7. Plus, there's Charleton Heston and the obligatory inane Hollywood subplot.

Why the fuck Hollywood won't just relate the history without fucking with it is maddening.

Tora, Tora, Tora was quite a bit more accurate. But Midway was ruined by Heston's ridiculous characature and the inane subplot surrounding his fictional character. Why? Because Hollywood is lame. What a waste of resources.

It is maddening to those of us who have actually studied these events.

Why make shit up when the real story is as compelling as it is?

10. Exactly! That subplot drove me crazy. The movie was bad already, that just made it worse.

It was TORA TORA TORA and Star Wars that made me want to make movies.

Gregory Peck toughening up those troops who all want to leave when he takes over from the former guy who had gotten too friendly with them.

Mostly a character study type of film, darned good, having seen it before!!

I agree, TORA TORA TORA is great!
