General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsThis made me cry. From Bernie Sanders - "And if you can't donate right now, I understand that."
I have never had a funding request come with that message. He only asked for $5.00, I can't even send that right now, but soon maybe.
Have I missed this in other political funding requests before? Honestly, I rarely finish reading them before I delete, so I could have missed this phenomenon.
Thanks to anyone that knows! This being DU, I have faith that someone will likely know.

(417 posts)I don't have the $5 either, but I started a new job today. I'll be able to start making donations soon. I really want to help Bernie, because I feel like he is the only one who will help me.

(38,613 posts)I don't recall ever hearing a politician say that. And it's especially cool in his case since he is dependent on small, individual donations
Mnemosyne
(21,363 posts)he seems to be leaning toward Bernie!

(11,986 posts)He is basically in sync with libertarians on issues of civil liberties (i.e. partiot act, separation of church and state) and foreign policy (i.e. was against the IWR). It's on the economic issues that they disagree (i.e. taxes/social safety net). So depending on which is more important to a libertarian, it is possible that many libertarian-leaning republicans could actually consdider Sanders in the general election if he were to make it that far. Unless Rand Paul gets the Republican nomination, Sanders is likely to be more "libertarian" in many ways than the Republican candidate.

(21,363 posts)I'm hoping Libertarians care more for their grandmother's well-being than anything else. I intend to mention grandmothers often when educating those I speak with. Who wants to be against their grandmother? Well, other than Darth who probably would have sent his to Gitmo.

(9,126 posts)He fights for regular people who can't afford a cut to their social security, who can't pay more for medicine, who are staring at the ceiling worrying that they can't buy new shoes for their kids. Those are the people who are supporting him (or should) because those are the people who need a government that works for them.

(9,126 posts)I hope that people start listening to Bernie. I'm very sad that a person who fights for the people with integrity and honesty is considered unelectable by many even on DU. It shows just how bad things have gotten.

(8,352 posts)I struggle on a fixed income due to my health.
I scraped up $3.00 today and sent it to his campaign. That is all I can do financially at the moment.
I did go to his website to sign up to volunteer, as did my partner.
I also spoke to close friends of mine who already are supporters of Sanders but are registered Greens. I stressed the importance of re-registering as Democrat for the next year so as to be able to vote for Sanders in the primary votes held here in Arizona. They are doing so!
Every little bit helps!
Mnemosyne
(21,363 posts)Dem so I can vote in it. Never has seemed right, or fair, to have closed primaries or the damn candidates who file as D and R on ballot. It seems to always be R's that do it.
Great news on your friends!
TM99
(8,352 posts)If you have no party affiliation you can choose which primary. But if you are a registered Green or Libertarian then no you can not vote in either GOP or Dem primary.
It is, isn't it?

(45,251 posts)"I'll understand." Yep. When you are raised poor because the sole support of your family is an unsuccessful paint salesman and you were born in 1941, when the nation was not fully of the Depression, you do understand why someone in 2015 might not be able to donate $5.
