http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/acts-of-faith/wp/2015/05/26/christians-are-quick-to-forgive-but-josh-duggars-apology-is-still-disturbing/After doing wrong, we usually want everything to be all right. If we can patch things up with minimal cost and personal discomfort, so much the better.
Josh Duggars got a steep hill to climb, and I have no intention of piling on, but something about his public statement galls me. Heres the full thing with some additional emphases:
Twelve years ago, as a young teenager I acted inexcusably for which I am extremely sorry and deeply regret. I hurt others, including my family and close friends. I confessed this to my parents who took several steps to help me address the situation. We spoke with the authorities where I confessed my wrongdoing and my parents arranged for me and those affected by my actions to receive counseling. I understood that if I continued down this wrong road that I would end up ruining my life. I sought forgiveness from those I had wronged and asked Christ to forgive me and come into my life. I would do anything to go back to those teen years and take different actions. In my life today, I am so very thankful for Gods grace, mercy and redemption.

I think all the use of I in his statement is a subconscious belief that he is the Real victim.

and I suppose that he never claimed Christ was in his life prior to this? I think not. I am sure that he did make such claims.
So... was he lying then or is he lying now?
Personally, I think child molesters are damaged people, usually damaged by being molested themselves, and there is no changing this for years and years even with therapy. Christ or no Christ.

(9,148 posts)A lengthy read but tells far more than I ever knew of how its entirely the females fault.
Considering who the players are, Gothard, Duggars & the funding behind their tax-exempt patriarical preaching, Hobby Lobby, I am not surprised that we see this legislating its way to the Supreme Court.
Josh Duggar must only admit & he is a-ok. It is always the girl's fault.

The Hobby Lobby owners were well-aware of the Gothard counseling and homeschooling program to puts women in servitude roles in the home and society, and the Duggars were aware they were teaching their son that his actions were his sisters fault. It is all founded on biblical teaching that women are the root of mans fall from grace, and that a man can garner complete forgiveness for the most sexually deviant and heinous acts simply by asking Jesus forgiveness and getting close to god. For the victims, as long as Jim Bob Duggar was as righteous as he says he was, then the girls are to blame and according to Gothards teachings they were no doubt shamed mercilessly according to the scripture-based Institute in Basic Life Principles that Hobby Lobbys owners fully support and heavily fund.

(15,139 posts)accepted Jesus as his savior at age 7, though in that household religion would have been a huge factor since birth. Those kids learned no stories except Bible stories. When asked in a tv interview what her favorite nursery rhyme is, his pregnant sister was stumped. She had never heard any. So for him to suggest he found religion after these incidents is just a big lie.
For all of their so-called "modesty" the Duggars are really all about sex. The parents reference it constantly. One episode had them dry humping on a mini golf course in front of their daughter and her boyfriend and then telling them, "You can't do this." Their PDA can be over the top. So on the one hand, they teach their kids that any physical contact prior to marriage is sinful and masturbation is sinful too, while on the other flaunting their own sex life. Lots of mixed messages there, with no acceptable outlet for a 14-year-old in the throes of puberty.
What Josh did was wrong and criminal, but the parents definitely share the blame -not only for what happened and for failing to protect their other children from him, but for fostering the environment in which it happened in the first place.

(24,411 posts)In the video, this is Jessa's first date with this boy. Of course, Jim Bob uses the backdrop of a mini-golf course to discuss that his daughters should remain pure.
Then, he proceeds to dry hump his wife in front of his daughter and her date. They look obviously uncomfortable.
This scene epitomizes their f'd up extremism. Females are to remain pure, but men can pretend to fuck their women out on the golf course with the daughter looking on.
Interesting that Jim Bob chides his daughter and her date by saying, "You can't do this!"
It's all about control and power with these types. Purity is about controlling women, while the men hump themselves silly all over the golf course.
And look at Jim Bob's wife. Powerless to do anything with her husband, who is treating her as if he's a dog in heat. Clearly, she's embarrassed.
I can't even IMAGINE my husband doing something like this in front of my daughters. I'd probably think he'd gone insane.
Anyone who fails to see that Jim Bob has major issues, is missing a whole lot.

(15,139 posts)if I was the boyfriend that would have been my signal to run for the hills and keep on running. Michelle Duggar is on record as saying that it's a wife's duty to have sex whenever the husband is in the mood, which, in Jim Bob's case, is all the time. When the acknowledged molestation occurred the Duggars were still living in a very small house. Can only imagine what the kids were hearing at night through thin walls.

for Josh.
Setting aside the fact that the victims were nothing more than a fleeting thought--what I find most egregious about this non-apology apology--is he's saying, "Fuck off, all of you!"
Look at that last line, "I am so very thankful for God's grace, mercy and redemption."
In other words--God all ready handled this, and it's ok with him. So, the rest of you chatty squirrels can go fuck yourselves.
After all, God all ready dealt with Josh. The Almighty certainly knows more than people on the Internet. So, just slow your roll all ready with all of those judgments, 'cause God took care of business.
