INADMISSIBLE: Ex-Speaker Gingrich Signs With Dentons

Newt Gingrich, the former Republican U.S. House speaker and presidential candidate who once hoped to colonize the moon, will join the lobbying group of the world's largest law firm on Earth.
"Dentons' unmatched global presence coupled with its recent expansion in the U.S. is a real draw," Gingrich said in a written statement last week. "The firm is committed to doing something unique, challenging the traditional and innovating in the legal profession with an emphasis on knowing and understanding communities around the world for the benefit of clients. It's exciting and I look forward to being a part of it alongside a distinguished group of former policymakers and opinion leaders."
Gingrich, 71, is not a lawyer. He will be a senior adviser at Dentons. According to federal lobbying disclosures, he has never formally acted as a lobbyist before. Gingrich is no stranger to consulting on policy, however. His now-bankrupt consulting firm, the Gingrich Group, earned $1.65 million in almost six years working for federal mortgage company Freddie Mac on "strategic planning," The Washington Post reported in 2012. At the time, Gingrich said he worked as an "historian" rather than a lobbyist.
Dentons, now the world's largest law firm with more than 6,000 lawyers, has the majority of its professionals in China after its recent merger with Chinese law firm Dacheng. Dentons also plans to combine this summer with McKenna Long & Aldridge, known for its government-contracts practice and other policy-related legal work.
Gingrich told The New York Times this month that he wasn't interested in running to lead the country again. "It's too big a mountain," he said. "You have to be honest about what you're capable of doing." — Katelyn Polantz
