Bill Nye set off the RW when he made a comment about climate warming and the Texas floods. They get ballistic and are angry when anyone tries to even talk about climate warming. In fact you risk personal danger when saying the words in their presence. If serious efforts were made at the federal level to mitigate climate warming we most likely would have a civil war.

(6,476 posts)Is it all the years of propaganda against liberals? I've run into conservative buzz saws before, and in unexpected places. Why are they so angry about climate change? Is it their religious beliefs?

(25,699 posts)There is no denier out there that can - or even will - deny that Carbon dioxide is an insulating gas. Nor can / will they deny that humans are putting a lot of this stuff - and more like it - into the atmosphere.
These facts are undeniable, even for idealists.
However, they're sold on the notion that the logical result of these two facts - climate change - is fake. They'll yell, scream threaten, and disambiguate, All to maintain their conclusion that 1+1=1. They respond with such anger because, very simply, they know they have a bad argument, they know they're completely on the wrong page... and that fact pisses them off. Rather than admit htey're wrong, they just try to shout down people who aren't.
Your explanation had the added benefit of giving me insight into my very disagreeable and angry father. The 60's we no fun at our house, at least not for me.
Thanks for the clarity, it's appreciated.

None of them want to look back and see a life that was only in the service of those killing that wilderness. That instead of being someone who worked and labored to keep safe and strong our amber waves of grain they were on the side of those ensuring the grains would wither and die, the sooner the better.

(46,354 posts)Bill Nye knows what he's talking about.
The climate change deniers get their "science" from bought and paid for politicians like James Inhofe, or right-wing commentators like Faux "news" and Rush the Fathead.
Unfortunately, it's not just the right wing that is attacking Bill Nye.
When Bill Nye was informed and wrote the facts about GMO's, the anti-GMO hysterics here went ballistic.
